I had a Vertu Signature and then an Ascent for a while*. As previously mentioned, they are effectively old technology Nokia phones in a bling (and rather heavy) casing. Frankly they are not the same as watches or jewelry: phone technology goes out of date quickly, and the absence of 3G and Bluetooth (still only on a subset of models) gives some indication as to how far the phones lag behind current models. Plus, IMO, they just look vulgar.

* Vertu was a client; I didn't buy them!

I think they look nice and clean unlike say the N95 or any of the sony phones!

First two reactions:
HAH!
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!! YES!!!!!!
and now for my thoughts.
Vertus are tacky. Want to impress? Get an unlocked iphone or kick@$$ blackberry. Want to be tacky and practical? Get a Dolce and Gabbana razr. Vertu is like a Maybach- for the wealthy without taste.
Personally, I come from a very comfortable background and I've been fortunate enough to live very comfortably myself
. I use a red razr that I'm quite happy with and an unlocked black GSM razr for international travel and as a backup. Better example: my older brother lives in Key Biscayne, FL (google it, that's your answer), drives an Aston, and has not flown coach since 1997. His phone is a Treo 700, even though he can afford any phone he wants. That's your hint right there... money and taste are better than money and rubbish.

sure there is
The kids of wealthy old-money foreign immigrants like myself, and wealthy old-money immigrants like my parents and grandparents
Oh, and the Kennedys.
I know! Tell me about it!
That's nice. I threw mine in the pacific when I got annoyed with having a leash.
Two Blackberries? I'm guessing you must either like to torture yourself, have two necks to hang leashes from, or you must have some compensatory issues

What made it so awful? That fact that it's the safest neighborhood in Miami and the one of the only places in South Florida many (myself included) would consider raising a family in? Or the USD$3mill being asked for a 1/4 acre 'tear-down.'
Bueno, si no hablas Español, yo entiendo porque usted lo odio. Pero en realidad, eso pasa cuando estas en una ciudad que es mas de 50% extranjera... específicamente de países hispanos.

That's quite a British trait I've noticed. If something goes wrong, like the weather, that's beyond the control of anyone, the place is still rubbish.
I'm not much older, but I tend to base where I live on whether or not I'd like my progeny brought up there. It's kept me from having to call the police at home or filing a claim against my homeowners insurance
ahh... gotcha. I found quite a nice 3/4 in Chelsea for about USD$3.5mill, and a handful of 2br properties scattered about for under USD$2mill. That's well within the price range of most KB residents.
