As I understand it, Vertu is a not-the-latest-technology Nokia. Everything 'worth it' is in the cover. And one day it will not even work anymore...

Well it is just my experience that all electronic devices at least in my use will stop functioning properly some day. Be it the display, the keyboard or the power supply. Ok, my first mobiles don't function because there is no NMT network anymore.

Nothing Vertu specific. On the other hand, if something goes wrong with your Vertu, it will probably be worthwhile to repair it until you just are not satisfied with its functionality anymore.

the original vertu models had a lifetime warranty. I think they changed that at some point in the past few years to 24-48 months or something.

If you have to ask this question, then yes, it IS a waste of money.

Has anyone come up with a Vertu type laptop?

Yes, several brands have made one, they all look tacky.

The Tulip EGO comes to mind...

Most questions asked about these phones are just "look at me" posts, I know several people here with a Vertu and have never seen them post about it. As it should be

If you like F1 why not get the limited edition box set? That way you'll have all 6 of them. If you are going to go bling, might as well make it limited edition bling.

They only made 51 of them and I think you can still get one, at just $63k it's quite a bargain.

What is the value/purpose in purchasing a Vertu phone?

IMHO it screams "very new money".
