How does it compare with the rival Acer Aspire One versions such as AOA110-1722, AOA110-1566, and AOA150-1570?

Got to play with the 10" Eee at a local shop briefly yesterday; looked nice, although I don't know that it's worth the $100 premium over the 901.

For that matter, now that the cheaper $399/16gb 900 is out, I'm not sure the 901 is worth the $200 premium although the atom + 6 cell battery combo is attractive.

Guys - Pls don't flame me. Has anyone tested 'MSI Wind'. I am currently thinking about that vs the Asus EEE PC.

And, isn't Dell's new low-priced dual Linux-XP offering due out this month?

I googled 'mini-inspiron dell' and see that Dell has purchased #1 in the paid ads, even though they have nothing yet to sell.

See my above post. The MSI Wind is marketed as an Advent in the UK. Nice PC though

I went with the Wind primarily due to the Intel CPU. I've never been a fan of Via, so the Intel Atom was a big selling point for me.

Bump... what's the 'deal' price for eee pc 1001 now?

A local deals website had a one-day special of AUD$499 delivered ($393 USD at today's rate).
This is the 10" screen, Win XP, 80G HD, 6 cell battery, Atom 1.6GHz cpu model.

Is the eee pc 1001 getting into $3xx territory yet on the 'deal a day' sites in the US?

I didn't order as I think there's room to improve the screen (I was offline all day, so no temptation ;)), but it was tempting.

I purchased an eee 1000HD for AU$498 this morning including free postage via the internet.
It is powered by Intel Dothan 353/ 900MHz not the Atom but that doesn't really worry me.
As I will be travelling overseas next month I will be able to claim the 10% GST back so it was a great deal ^

That's the one... I didn't know there was a Dothan model (hence 1001HD not 1001H which was what I though was the only one).

I bought a 7" model earlier from the same daily site.
I'm interested in the time it takes for delivery - I'd guess around 10 working days?

I'd get one within a month of an OS trip, too. I hope the offer is repeated between now and mid October. :)

Any word on the Atom version?

I'll post how long it takes to arrive.
They said it ships in 5 - 10 days. My account states that it is being processed.

From what I have read, the eee 1000 and 1000H include the Intel® Atom N270 which allows a longer battery life.

Picked up the EEE during my last run through EWR (Thanks, Mom!) and was unable to do much more than charge the battery for two weeks due to work and other commitments.

Brought it home and for four more days, barely had it open.

It still had the screen plastic!

Loaded it with the specialty software we use and took it on our working vacation. Wonderful. The 900 WinXP version is a solid little workhorse and has done everything I've asked of it.
Small enough to sit in one of my average purses, I'm now in the market for a new carryon bag. Long enough cords to plug into a wall and move around the room a bit. Good enough battery life that I was able to sit outside and get wireless access for over an hour. Love the touchpad on it as well. Fair startup, good hibernation and return from sleep mode.

Where I see a problem is for those who have thicker fingers. My mom is one of those and she's a statistical typist, so for her to have to watch the keyboard is driving her right up the walls. For me, it was a short-term fuss over learning where the shift key is on the right pinkie, rather than the up arrow. By the end of the week, I was doing documents without serious issues.

Because it runs the software we need, we are seriously considering one with a Swedish keyboard. One more test on it to be certain and that testing will be done this week.

I would have preferred the 901 with the Atom, which I thought she was getting. Instead and without complaint, I will go ahead and purchase the extra battery for travel use. All told, the parts will still fit in a smallish purse.

Now I'm on a rather serious debate with myself over keeping the Vaio. If the test of the EEE passes this week, it may be that the Vaio is truly an excess machine for us. Though having a backup laptop really could be a good thing.

I did - thanks. :) Was not sure if it was a clone or rebadged ones initially.

The market is currently getting more interesting with similar-ish model configurations being relased by the various manufacturers. I've yet to commit. Shame the Dell Mini 9 is only a 8.9".

For Mac heads: all things being equal (other than price): MacBook Air or Asus EEE PC (Linux only)?
