CompUSA...

Yesterday: 229 stores
Today: 100 stores.

They won't have any stores left in many states. All stores in Chicago are gone.

FWIW; when they close they usually have many good deals for us travelers, at the closing store near me all notebook accessories are 50% off (including chargers, batteries and airline chargers). Cellphones are now 40% off. Slingboxes are 30% off, making the Sling AV just $124.

Is there a link to a list of store closings? Wondering if my local store is going to have some deals.

They'll start at 10% off most things, with 20% off the junk items like ipod accessories. After 5-6 days most products (except notebooks/desktops/monitors) will move to 20% and iPod accessories, notebook accessories etc... will go to 30%. Networking will be 20%.

After 10 days most products will be 30% off (except desktops/notebooks) but by then all the "cool" stuff will be gone.

Comp USA is a store that I haven't frequented in years and wouldn't. No loss.

I agree. Poorly trained, uninterested staff, bad inventory management and bad prices.

I believe the way to find out whether your store is closing is to go to compusa.com and check the store locator. If it still shows as a valid location, then it's staying open. If it's gone, then it's closing.

I always found the staff at CompUSA to be better than the sales people at say Circuity City or (shudder) Best Buy.

I checked this yesterday. The store closest to me is no longer listed so I went last night to see if there were any deals. They are still hiring, and there is no indication the store may close.

I checked here in Cleveland area Monday night and it looked like business as usual, even though they are no longer listed on the website. I wonder when their clearance sales will happen.

All of the Colorado stores are still around, except for one on the west side of town. It's too far away for me to bother to visit.

They were competent enough to ring my purchases (and pricematch competitor ads without much hassle), so I can't complain about their customer service too much.

I was going to post about this yesterday, but I debated on whether this was truly forum-related.

First they kill off The Good Guys brand and now they halve themselves...

What a really lousy company, although, anyone who can't compete with crap operations like BestBuy and Circuit City probably should go the way of the dinosaur.
