I got a good deal on some product here in Atlanta on some cellular accessories. I will wait a couple of weeks and see if anything gets in lower. Then I might buy somethings that I really don't need right now.

All the stores in the Seattle area will be gone, as well.
CompUSA, for those who might recall, used to be called Softwarehouse (back when it competed directly with Egghead Discount Software, which at the time was based in the Seattle area). It seems to be a victim -- among other things -- of the fact that computers are now mainstream and part of the broader category of "consumer electronics." After all, just about every piece of CE has a special-purpose computer inside.

Christ this thread shocked the heck out of me as I just got a laptop from them.
I was in HNL two weeks ago and one of my laptops crashed and I had to pick up another one as I couldn't get it fixed in time. This happened to be Sat so on Sun I looked in the Ad's and CompUSA had a good price on a laptop so I went there and got it (they only had two in stock, no wonder they had this at such a good price). But I hadn't been to a CompUSA in years and years. OfficeMax, Best Buy, Circuit City and others in HNL had crap in stock and available and it's not like I could order one online delivered on a Sunday for a 6 am Monday flight back overseas.
The HNL store and the stores near my place in FL are staying open, atleast for now. I hope my international warranty stays valid as I eat laptops, atleast three repairs a years.

Funny you ask, Dr. B; I was just in one of the local SoCal stores (Tustin Marketplace) and all the "good" stuff's still only at the 10% mark. I asked the floor manager and he said that "as long as stuff is moving at 10% off, that's where they'll stay until it gets really close to the end".
Considering that your only recourse for repairs is to send it back to the manufacturer and that all sales are final, it's just not a good deal. Who's also to say that prices didn't go up some percentage before these "Everything Must Go!!!!" prices, too?

In the northeast (USA), usual discount is only 10%, and for small selection, up to 30%. They don't seem to be in hurry to move things out....which is really part of their original business model problem!

Stores here are doing the 30%/10% thing too. I did pick up an OK ipod case for 30% off, but there's lots of stuff that at only 10% off, I'd rather buy someplace where it's returnable-or on a normal sale for better than 10% off.

Final sales prices were:
Cellphones 60% off
Cameras 30% off
Notebook accessories: 60% off
Monster brand 60%
PC's 15%-20%
Networking 50%
MP3 players 30%
All in all I spent thousands. And made thousands more thanks to Ebay

CompUSA was their own worse enemy...
Poor management with decent products.
Closing all their BOS stores rather than a cross section of them only dumped them out of the whole region... a very large region that companies like Apple and Best buy are falling over themselves to open stores....
Its not the customer thats broken obviously....
Please note.. I fear US has takend the CompUSA approach....

I hear CompUSA gone out of business here in PHX. What is reason CompUSA isn't enough poorly customers. What about something new hardware store someplace else in PHX. I think OfficeMax, BestBuy, Office Depot does still operates all stores over the states. We didn't go to CompUSA for long time when I was taking my old computer to get fixed when computer was crashes after happened with my AOL was virus over my emails & stolen the password. When we called the AOL when they told us it was too many virus but, AOL does change my password when I was woke up in the morning in 2002. it was too many spam emails and virus, too. I remember what happened old computer with Compaq when my brother brought the computer from MHT in 2000 for my birthday. I was flew to MHT for few days when I am day off from work. I remember what happened old computer was too many problems.

Fantastic - I hope they all close! The CompUSA store in downtown SF is absolutely the worst - no customer service, very long lines, and usually bad prices as well as poor or no stock. Could not be much worse. After yet another ill fated visit a couple of years ago, I decided it wasn't worth my time to go there even during those advertised sales when they give away stuff for free after MIR.
Management basically told me to take a hike when I complained about the service. Normally I would feel sorry for all the employees being laid off but not for these incompetent rude slugs.
Good riddance.
