Do the "fire" sales begin today? Tomorrow?
It looks like my local CompUSA is no longer listed on the website, so I might have to pay them a visit.
I liked that store, too.

I was surprised to find the store nearest me is 98 miles away; Bakersfield!!! I couldn't believe it as there are none left in L.A.

I read a couple of posts on other websites that the sale started this morning, while others saying that the prices have remained the same, just that now everything is non-returnable, and the sale prices will start in 30-60 days. Not sure why anyone would shop there if the prices are normal and you can't return anything. I will be stopping by my local store (that is no longer listed on the website) to check it out.

I'd like to see if I can suss out that perfect time to be at CompUSA: just when the prices plummet and not a moment before.

What happened?
I got ripped off around 2K with rebates... but since then mastered them...
They had some awesome deals on Black Friday...
Oh well...
Still have a store in ANC... but not there all the time...

The stores have been sold to a liquidator, but given the size of the sale I don't think they'll be able to get them all into liqudation mode that fast. I'm guessing it'll depend on leases of buildings, and how soon they have to be out of there.
Here are some of the deals I think may be of interest for Flyertalkers (at my local Cusa after 10 days of sales)
Slingbox AV: $120
Plantronics Discovery 640 headset: $57
APC external battery pack (for most notebooks, adds around 8 hours): $59
Kensington AC/DC/AIR charger (for notebooks, mp3, etc...): $43
Belkin Highspeed Expresscard docking station: $100
T-Mobile DASH: $190 (no activation required)
Cingular Blackjack: $220 (no activation required)
TomTom ONE: $224
Magellan 2000: $223
Of course, these deals won't be the same everywhere so YMMV.

No loss in the Chicago area. I quit shopping there years ago when sale items weren't available on Sunday when the sales hit and they have a no raincheck policy.

Yup. Ones by me when I was back were closing in Oak Brook IL and Naperville IL. I got a bunch of stuff 50% off.
Got those emergency batteries for my cell phone for about $3 each. Got some laptop accessories and power tips for cheap. Good sale for me, but bad for the store. Plus now I got nowhere close to by the Bawls at
