any info
thank you alanw for responding! whew
I am FAIRLY certain having been with ATT five years now with data, that the smartphone connect unlimited will not allow complete services with a pda device, access to corp email, pop email, etc. Internet, sure, but I don't think it is full boat. I could be wrong, but I THINK this plan only applies to the 3125 phone and NONE of the other PDA phones. If one tries to configure it online at attws.com, the only phone that this plan even shows up for is the 3125. And not the blackjack for example or the 8525.
For other phones one has to have a minimum of 29.99$ for the "PDA connect plan" or the "pda personnal max" 39.99$ unlimited plan. this has been the BANE of ATT and verizon for years and why sprint and t-mobile are so much cheaper in this area (of course with T-mo, you get what you pay for)
So, that is a minimum of a 25% discount to the standard rates, if we take the apple iphone plan and get just the 59.99$ 450 minutes plan.
The 700 minutes higher plan is only a 18% discount using these numbers. And that is the 29.99$ plan and not the higher UNLIMITED 39.99$ plan which I THINK is the one that is required.
If we were to have the true PDA unlimited plan it would be a discount of 41% and 35% respectively.
does anyone have any info that the "smartphone" plan is applicable to anything in the PDA line of phones?
I guess it is certainly POSSIBLE to GET ATT to put that plan on another phone that that they don't officially allow to be an applicable phone/plan combo, just like T-mo and the 8080 hack for 5.99$ a month, instead of 15.99$ a month, but I would not consider this any official plan or package supported or offered by the company as a phone/plan combo and certainly would not consider this a mainstrem user picking a phone and finding some sneaky work around for a cheaper plan, trying to convince ATT that indeed SOME PDA's are using SOME FORM of WinMo smartphone edition.
I think ATT considers a PDA a PDA and not a smartphone and makes one select and applicable PDA plan

Ugh..
A colleague of mine tried to buy an iPhone about a month ago (we do applications for mobile phones and needed one for the company). At the AT&T store they didn't have any but said they would fedex him one, which would take about three weeks. He signed the contract and got the sim card.
Later that day he went to an Apple store and bought another iPhone complete with contract and sim card since they had them at the store. This phone he took with him to another branch of our company, intending to return the first iPhone upon returning three weeks later, which should be fine since it was supposed to take three weeks to arrive.
Somehow it only took them two days to mail it and thus when he got back it was too late for the 14 days return period.
He still uses the sim card that came with it, but we don't need two iPhones. So I spent today trying to return it - the first AT&T store would have accepted it, but he (or at least his CC) would have needed to be physically present - impossible at the moment. The Apple store couldn't do anything and the second AT&T store didn't see any chance either.
Of course, they aren't really to blame. Maybe the shipping estimation could have been more accurate, but other than that they didn't do anything wrong - except maybe let Apple talk them into very strict refund rules..
Now we'll be trying to talk to AT&T WHQ, after all this still makes him a loyal customer with two high profile contracts and one iPhone.
The other way would be selling the phone at ebay or where ever - anyone want a never used, not activated iPhone?

Be sure you're talking to a manager, too. This is the type of decision that only they would be able to make.
Try calling Customer Relations at Apple. I believe it's 800-767-2775. Not positive though. You don't want Technical Support or Apple Store Sales Support. You want Customer Relations (so ask for that if it's not clear in the call tree). Once you are in the right place, ask to speak to someone in "Tier Two".

More speculation from analysts. They're like goats. They'll chew on anything.
from the article...
While Apple should have been aware and fixed the problem, the broker said, only time will confirm that all is well with that touch screen.
This thing was in development for like 2 years. Chances are they wouldn't have gone forward without working a bug like that out.
Time will tell, of course, but they'll be under warranty regardless, and if Apple didn't know before they do now, and they'll be working on a fix that should be ready by the time it's needed.

Why should Apple's touch screen be any different than the rest?

Unbelievable. I've been itching for another new toy and after my daily check to see if the iphone is unlocked yet, I go out and drop 699EUR on an N95. Not fifteen minutes after I get back home with my new prize they go and unlock the bloody thing.
Now I have to wait two weeks for the turbo sim to show up.

It is now possible to use it with any SIM card. Not for the faint of heart, at all, though I'm sure in a few weeks' time there will be some enterprising soul who does the surgery for people.
They've made a proxy that sits between the SIM and the phone and takes advantage of the fact that the iphone makes multiple requests for the IMSI to allow any SIM to masquerade as an ATT SIM.

I love the iPhone! I was able to pick up a one month old Nokia e65 on eBay for less than half the retail cost. ^ The seller replaced it with an iPhone.
