No confirmation of this (rumor alert!) but the various apple forums are starting to say the $499/$599 will be the undiscounted price of the iPhone...and that Apple will not allow Cingular / Rogers (for the Canadians) to discount the phone.

Cingular currently denies they will offer a special priced contract for iPhone service.

I believe this was an established fact... Apple is not allowing Cingular to subsidize the cost of the phone.

Doh!

<slaps forehead>

My fault for not going through the thread!

...in that case, never mind! :)

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but I saw some company is making tactile function screens for phones. So when you push a button on the screen, it vibrates back at you. Maybe that is one of the secret features of this phone that they are still working on.

I hope Samsung sues their asses if they add tactile feedback. http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/08/s...ra-smart-f700/

Yeah, I returned it but I got Treo 650 for $99 instead. ;)

As it is, iPhone prices are too much for me.

Windows mobile 6 will now also support HTML email, so the one big thing the iPhone had going for itself is now gone. Also; HTC just announced a new phone with 8Gb HDD inside, as well as the regular 128Mb memory, so even that advantage is gone. This new device has 3G, GPS, VGA out, attachable keyboard and a 624MHz processor.

Nokia Series 80/90 and UIQ have had HTML email support for ages - is it really only now that WM supports it? Blimey. Didn't know that. The Nokia N91 8Gb is shipping now too (whatever happened to the Samsung SGH-i310?).

Meanwhile, rumours of the new Nokia Communicator grow stronger*.

But without a real keyboard or touchscreen it's not interesting to me...

RIP Indeed :(

Bloody marvelous actor, bloody marvelous TV show.

The new communicator is no longer just a rumor. But still, eh. All the new Nokias have the size and aesthetics of a Soviet threshing machine.

Sure thing. I've yet to see a form factor with both that appeals to me - but I can see how they might attract people with different needs.

There's no official announcement from Nokia and whatever it is is still under NDA ;)

Aesthetics maybe, but size? The E61 is pretty damn thin compared to Trios and BBs, the other E series phones aren't exactly bloated, and what competes with the N95 for a device with that much packed into it?

Another Apple "invention" ? Oh Lord.....

That function of vibration from screen touch has been on Windows Mobile phones for donkey years. I had an I-mate Jam like 3 years ago that could do that.

No WindowsMobile device has ever had that, and it most certainly wasn't in the Jam.

Tactile feedback isn't the same as making the little vibrating motor move when you touch the screen, it's a real tactile feedback technology integrated in the screen unit.

There is nothing new about tactile feedback, Alpine had it in their nav units back in 2004. The technology works with incorporating piezo elements into the display. Like I said, no WM device has ever had this.

Indeed- I couldn't imagine using a touchscreen phone without tactile feedback. With the proper feedback, it could be exceptional.

So the Nokia E90 has been announced. Finally I can actually talk about it ;)

Not convinced about the size, but it has a stonking specification.

WLAN 802.11g
HSDPA up to 3.6Mbit/s enabled
WCDMA 2100 MHz with simultaneous voice and packet data
GPRS/EGPRS (Class A, MSC 32)

Inner display: Active matrix color display (800 x 352 pixels), 16 million true colors
Outer display: Active matrix color display (240 x 320 pixels), 16 million true colors

And the best thing is the outer display functions as a full S60 phone in its own right.

The iPhone has some nice UI features but when you've got Symbian and WM phones due at the same time with such lovely specs and software support, it's looking more and more ordinary...
