Has the LG 'Prada' phone announced for Europe been discussed here? Its full touchscreen front, 8Gb memory and web surfing functionality makes it interesting.

iPhone... a little to pricey. However, if Apple can prove to give a better web experience, plus email, the cost can be be justified for a business app. With that big screen, web surfing should be iPhones meal tkt.

Profit margins for apple and cingular
According to various on-line updates, apple will have 50%+ margin on the iPhone. One site is http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2085350,00.asp.
Cingular on the other hand will get you for two years, probably with a contract of at least $39.99 plan or even higher since you will want data plan, full internet access, etc. So 24 months @ say $60/month and they generate close to $1500.
Not bad, we get to fork over $2000 over two yr period to be the first on the block with the iPhone

Cramer said AT&T is one of the most interesting stories coming out of the tech period. In its call, the company made it very clear that it's going to use Apple's iPhone to get customers from Verizon Wireless by giving away its service for a year and a half to those customers who buy the phone.

Well, Cingular is denying that apparently, but it may well turn out to be true (did I theorize this earlier on the thread? I seem to remember doing that somewhere) that Cingular and others are not subsidizing the phone cost at all, and this article states this is Apple's doing. In other words, the phone costs $499/$599, and that would be the full retail price. It's not that the phone costs even more than that, and Cingular is subsidizing $200 to get it to that level. If Cingular was doing so, the price would come down, but Apple doesn't want them to. Hence, the idea that Cingular will offer free or reduced price service to offset this. Could still be true in some way or another. Guess we'll find out in a few months.

iPhone is not for me. Not anywhere near enough business use. This is a personal entertainment phone. Really great screen, but other than that it does very little that something serious like a Treo or Blackberry does. Look at the Sony MyLo--similar concept and has been out over a year already (screen different, but Apple put everything into the screen interface on this iPhone). iPhone is hardly revolutionary in any respect. Apple diehards will buy it....like they always do. Teens will want it, too. For business, where people actually do spend 500.00 on a device and 100.00/months service, this is just not functional enough for most of us. No wifi, no Outlook synch (yet, anyway), no GPS, no corporate push email, etc.

Having spoken to a friend who is on the iPhone team, it's clear there's a real buzz about the device in use. It's also interesting to see Nokia's rather warm reception for the device. I'm starting to come round to the idea that the UI might actually be revolutionary and shake up the market a little.
I still won't buy one, and don't believe it can hit the mass market, though. No tactile feedback (maybe they could transmit electric shocks to the thumb to signify buttons being pressed?
) and no one-handed use will limit its sales, IMO.

alas they are saying no...and if you think about it, it would totally kill cingular. You'd be nothing short of a data client to them....never the less its was my dream too... use that phone with a SIP client and connect to my asterisk server as just another extension...wow that would have been cool!
