Operator flash programming of GSM phones?
I have a Motorola V600 that I bought from Orange. Works great. Now I have started using it in the US with a Cingular chip. When I get a voice mail, the MWI message from the network appears to be different than the Orange MWI. With Cingular I get a SMS with garbage text. I figured out that Cingular flashes their phones to receive a different MWI than what Orange sends.
Anyone know a way to easily fix this?

There are flash and flex files available on the Internet that you can download if you have a data cable for the V600. A search for V600 flash and flex should yield some results. You can even get a flex that is not customized to any particular operator. I'm using GI9V600000AA0E9 flex and TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.45R flash, which has a field debug menu option that is useful for me.

Besides, how else can I easily find out that my current serving cell is ch 168 (AT&T/Cingular's GSM850 network) at an RSSI of -81, and pull up a neighbor list to show that the best PCS1900 channel is down at -91 RSSI?

The definitive site for Motorola hacking, upgrading, etc. is Motclub, http://www.motclub.com/.
Unfortunately for some of you, it's based in Spain and all in Spanish except for one seldom-visited forum.
You can probably pick your way through using Babelfish or something. They have a ton of information there, including pointers to the little pieces you need that are scattered all over the web.
Motorolas are the funnest and easiest to hack that I have yet seen. I bought a V400 for $200 and was able to update the firmware from the crappy Cingular stuff to generic, and change the flex...now it thinks it's a V600, complete with all the applications and features (funny the Bluetooth menu doesn't seem to do anything though)...
I just ordered an A630 (finally) and will be hacking the nuts out of it to enable video, quadband, IM, etc.
