Comparing downloads from allofmp3 or P2P networks with shoplifting or stealing or stealing of physical products is pointless, just like reading a magazine in the airport bookstore instead of buying it doesn't equal theft, and back to back ticketing is not the same as stealing from the airline. if you hear the music in a music store its ok. so is the reading of the book. but the music was digitally copied. this itselv is not illegal. but the way the music got into the web might be illegal depending on the country. there is no difference if you steel in a shop or a digital copy. many people come up with the argument that ( i wouldnt have bought this CD anyway) so i am not steeling or no body is getting hurt. this might be correct in the first place, but if you download illegal music on your computer, this is illegal and this is a crime. the fact that you woulnt have bought the cd is not entitling you to steal the music nor its making the crime getting legal . but, there is no right or wrong in this discussion at this point. the music industry cant chase the billions of users down , so they are making every 6 month a big action so we dont forget that its illegal . what pisses me off is, that the industry still havent understood that the PRICE for legal music downloads is way too high. i am sure most users are happy to pay 1usd to 3 usd for a complete album. no virus, no slow downloads etc. so the user who would normally download the music illegaly from P2P would now maybe pay the little amount and the situation would be that the recordlabels are earning money. So in my eyes , the PRICE has to come down, and it will but this will take another 2 or 3 years . |
allofmp3.com has been down since 5/12.

But allTunes is not working, nor can you order songs through the website. :(
I had been planning on adding about $30 to my account (which holds about $2 right now), but I've been too lazy. Maybe it was a good thing I didn't. |

Maybe where you come from, but not in my country. Article 16b (1) of the Dutch Copyright Act is clear on this: downloading copyrighted music, movies, eBooks, and dirty pictures for private use is 100% legal. I can legally download all the music I want from any website or P2P network*, even if the other end violates the law by offering the stuff for download**. There are plenty of other countries with similar laws. Canada, France, ... . Take-home message: you shouldn't call things a crime just because they may be illegal where you live. Never ever assume that the laws of your country are universal. They're not. *) http://www.ivir.nl/legislation/nl/copyrightact.html **) http://www.solv.nl/Rechtspraak-6.pagina?nid=5&lang=en |
Latest update...
You can order music now, with the following warning:
ATTENTION! Substantial delays are possible for orders with least popular encoding formats. Please, select mp3, 128, 192 or 320 kbps if you want to get tracks quickly. |
Looks like technology issues, not government issues.
What a surprise! :D |

Rising consumer popularity is turning AllofMP3.com, a music downloading service based in Moscow, into a global Internet success story, except for one important detail: The site may well be illegal. So great is the official level of concern about AllofMP3 that American trade negotiators darkly warned that the Web site could jeopardize Russia's long-sought entry into the World Trade Organization. Operating through what music industry lobbyists say is a loophole in Russia's copyright law, AllofMP3 offers a vast catalogue of music that includes artists who have not permitted their work to be sold online — like the Beatles and Metallica — at a fraction the cost of services like Apple Computer's iTunes service. It is an offer that may seem too good to be true, but in Russia, considered to be a hotbed of digital piracy and theft of intellectual property, courts have so far allowed the site to operate, despite efforts by the record labels Warner, Universal and EMI to aid prosecutors there.......... getting busier
