I had never thought about the portability issue but what you said makes lots of sense.

I was going to purchase one of the unlocked/unbranded iPAQs from expansys but after your write up, I am going to sit on for a while more.

It's supposed to be out right about now but won't ship with the new WM5 OS until sometime next year. Details here.

I'm still pretty jazzed about the much-delayed BenQ P50, which was just approved by the FCC.

After living with both a Treo and a Windows smartphone with OTA ActiveSync for push mail, I will never consider going back to the Palm device. The Exchange stuff just works too well.

IMO, it will always come back to the size of the device. If it's a PITA to carry around, then regardless of the features you'll end up leaving the thing at home or in your office. The new PocketPC (from the link above) looks like a major improvement on the 6315...but it's still quite a bit bigger than the Treo and RIM.

When I need the power/features of a "real" computer, I've got my laptop. What I need out of my smartphone is a subset of the features/abilities of my laptop in a handy sized case.

My personal preference would be to stay with Windows Mobile...but I just don't like my options there, so I'm now over to Palm. It's workable.

Did you have GoodLink software on your Treo? Without it, I would have traded mine in long ago. With it, I can't imagine what additional Exchange functions I would need - I've compared it feature-by-feature with BB users and it's superior. I haven't run into a Windows mobile device among my coworkers to compare with.

Didn't PalmOne license ActiveSync a while back - I assume it will be embedded in future devices.
