Easiet method of taking, and saving, a screen shot

Newbie question: I've seen a few methods while searching online but they all seem a little too complicated. What's the easiest way to obtain, and save, a screen shot of any page on any website.

TIA

In Windows? Alt+PrintScreen will take a screen shot of the current active window and save it to the clipboard so you can paste it into any program.

The Snipping Tool will let you select any part of the screen and save to an image file or the clipboard. To get it, go Start-> and type "snipping tool" or go into All Programs->Accessories->Snipping Tool.

I just discovered a neat, free screeshot tool for Windows.

GreenShot

Hit the PrtScn button, and select what you want to take a screenshot of. It's not as robust as, say, Snag-It, but it's still pretty good.

This is exactly what the Snipping Tool does, and it's built in to Windows.

Awesome little tool, but typical for Microsoft to call it something stupid. Call it "make a screenshot" and more people will find it

Many, like me, mostly need to snip just portions of the current screen to paste into email, documentation, or presentations. In the past we had to use MS Paint or similar to edit screenshots down to useable size before doing this because the entire screen was too much. The snipping tool does this nicely and is aptly named. I'm just sayin'.

Do NOT download from this site. I needed such a tool because I still have XP, so no Snipping Tool. Well, I downloaded and installed. GreenShot itself is pretty nice, but the installer put an incredible amount of crapware, and quite a bit of malware, on my computer. In the installation process, it specifically asks you if you want a bunch of other things. I specifically checked no, but it was all installed anyway. And, of course, it didn't even pretend to ask about the malware (including dangerous redirects). Even after I uninstalled and deleted everything I could find, Malwarebytes still found 20 brand new threats. I just finished wasting 3 hours undoing the damage.
To repeat, do NOT install this.

I just read about how SourceForge is starting to add malware into installers. Very disappointing. The install file I have from a few weeks ago has no malware elements.

+1 for Snipping tool. I use it daily. I just wish it had slightly better drawing tools.

Just wondering did you actually choose the correct download link on the site? Problem with many freeware/shareware download sites is the Google ads are taken up by things pretending to be the correct download link. in fact there are two "ads" on the site now that look like graphical download buttons, and they even say "download Greenshot". Sometimes they even do legitimately download and install the shareware you're looking for in addition to the crapware/malware, so you don't even realize you've clicked on the bad download graphic.

If you use Dropbox, they recently added screenshot functionality. Pressing Ctrl + PrtSc will save a screenshot automatically to your local Dropbox folder.

I just want to say thanks to gfunkdave for making me aware of the snipping tool - easy to use, simple, there where you need it.... how un-Microsoft!
