I am having one heck of a time getting my Edimax BR6258n to work here in MUC. I can get it work perfectly when testing it at home.
I am at a hotel that has you sign in for wifi (supplied UN/PW), but ethernet does not appear to have that limitation. The iQ cannot get anything to work, and I have tried just about every variation of settings to see what works.
I am trying to make my wired hotel connection work with the router and become private wifi in the room. THe weird thing is, when I have my Chromebook plugged in to the router, it can access the Internet. However, nothing that connects via wifi can - they go straight to the configuration screen.
Would someone be so kind to explain to me how to get this thing to work?

Anyone looking for a cheap wireless router can try the Neewer wireless router. For the specs, see http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Pocket-.../dp/B005IJPZXK.
I have tried it a couple of times overseas and it worked quite well.

edimax br6258nl as a signal repeater?
My hotel has a weak wifi signal which I want to edimax 6528nl to repeat, so I'll get better signal reception in the room.
has anyone been successful in doing so, namely, getting the 6258nl to act as a repeater? I can't get this to work.
TIA

Travel Router
I'm pulling out my hair and hope someone here can help...
I frequently find myself staying with relatives with internet connections but no wireless. I need to find a travel router that I can connect to the ethernet but need to be able to plug the existing computer into the router.
All of the travel routers that I have seen only have an "ethernet in" slot; no "ethernet out ". My existing router has the in and 4 out connections but it is really bulky -- not a good travel option.
Is anyone aware of a good travel router with just a single ethernet out slot?
Thanks!

Might want to check out the Travel Technology forum. Seems like people like the edimax, has a wan side, and a LAN side Ethernet. Also does wisp. I just picked up an asus, will check it out on my travels next week.

There seem to be a lot of similar products to what you describe, but you could always just bring a wireless usb adapter to plug into your relatives computers temporarily as well.

Something like this even? Zyxel MWR102

When I run into this problem, I just go to the nearest Walmart and buy the cheapest regular wireless router they have. I'm partial to Buffalo or Netgear myself, but whatever is on sale will do. I install it for them and leave it as a gift when I depart (even if they never use it again, I might be back).
Just put a piece of tape on the top with the SSID and password, so that way they won't have to call you for help if they ever get another visitor who wants to use the wifi.

Already mentioned the Zyxel
http://www.zyxel.com/us/en/products_...r102.shtml?t=p
and the Cnet 980

The Zuni

This Level One

and others will do what you are looking for.
Keep in mind depending on their current set up you may need to also change the configuration of their computer when you connect the router and change it back when you remove it.

Thanks all! Lots for me to check out.
Sorry I didn't realize there was a travel technology forum.
What change are you referring to? With my wired stationary PC at home, I can either connect directly to the cable modem or instead to the router (in turn connected to the cable modem) without making any changes to the PC. The only problem is that my home router is big, old and on the fritz. (Sorry, PC capable but far from an expert.) Thx.

It's possible that the setup in the PC has a static IP address instead of getting it from the modem. You will need to change it once you put in the router, and when you remove the router, return it to what it was, including the gateway address, subnet mask and possibly the dns servers. I would make sure to record those before you do anything in case they are static.
If that's the case you will need to remove it to put in either a dynamic one or in the range on the back side of the router and put it back once you remove the router.
If it's already set to get it's IP and the rest from the cable modem it's not an issue.
