When traveling through airport security, do you have to take your Ipad out of these cases? If so, is there one thats nice that can also be airport/tsa compliant?

the ipad case is not material unless its made of lead, I suppose.

But that won't stop them from giving your bag secondary screening. Even with removing my ultraportable, I think I'm about 50/50 or less on them going through my carry-on, removing some thing, and putting the entire mess back through one or two more times.
Ayyway, your ipad, kindle, netbook, etc can stay in your bag. Case or no case.

Electronic items smaller than the standard sized laptop should not need to be removed from your bag or their cases. It’s that simple.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)
Thanks you two. Couldnt I just get the apple case or a DMS brown one from amazon and leave it in there then? Whats the need or the purpose of the exo sleeve? Just extra protection?
Extra protection and you can put a strap on it and hang a pouch on it and it makes a small bag like a briefcase for when you arrive at your destination.

I agree with GadgetFreak. I've taken mine to Europe a couple of times and I really like the Exo. The strap allows me to carry it easily, with no hassle, and the optional pouch clips on to the sleeve and holds the power adapter, cord and earbuds. It makes for a tidy package that is compact and gives great added protection. If I'm walking about town, I just slip the strap over my neck and arm. When I go through airport security, I put the strap and pouch in my carryon and put the Exo with the iPad in it directly on the belt.
I won't go into hyperbolic rapture about it being the "best in the world" or "perfect", but SFbags are high quality, look great, and the company gives very good customer service.

I've had very good luck with my Tuff-Luv leather case. Amazon has several versions and colors now. I ordered before Amazon said they had them in stock, but Tuff-Luv shipped it about 2 weeks early. No problem in security making me take it out (about 10 airports).
Note: the link is for the faux leather, I bought the more expensive "real" leather and have had great results. I really like that the case allows you multiple angles when viewing in landscape mode, makes for better viewing on when using different tables, seat backs, etc. I originally heard about the Tuff-Luv in another FT thread, but don't remember which one.

OK, not really a case per se, but I've recently installed the ZAGG Invisible Shield on my iPad. I've been using it for a week+ now, and the overall verdict is positive.
The Invisible Shield is your basic plastic coating that goes on top of the screen. I keep my iPad safely tucked inside an Apple case, but I'm still afraid of scratching that precious screen. Not to mention that I have fairly oily skin so I'm forever getting fingerprints all over my screen which I have to wipe off with a microfibre cloth every night.
No more! The Invisible Shield has alleviated my fears of scratching and as a side benefit, it seems to be much more oleophobic than the original Apple screen. As a side benefit, the Shield is somewhat "grippy" so typing on the screen is better for me now. I didn't mind typing on my "naked" iPad but typing on a Shielded one just feels better to me now.
The downsides:
- The Invisble Shield isn't quite invisible. When the iPad is off, you'll certainly notice there's something covering the screen. But when the iPad is on, the extra coating is not terribly noticible. It's certainly not distracting in the least.
- Applying the coating is a bit tricky. At first you get massive air bubble between the Shield and the screen. It takes some effort to work out the big bubbles. Even afterward though, you'll still have many little bubbles. It takes about 2 days for everything to settle properly and get that bubble-free coating. Immediately after applying the Shield I was very tempted to take it off because of the air bubbles. but I persevered and I have to say, all is well now.
- The Shield is expensive at $30. But it's a small price to pay to save your iPad screen from potential scratches. At this point, anything that scratches my iPad will probably destroy it outright. I'm that confident about the coating.
- Like I said, the Shield is grippy which makes typing better (for me), but I admit that a naked iPad feels nice.
Overall the Invisible Shield is a good product and I'm glad that I have it installed.

The OP was looking at the Dodocase - I have one on my iPad and absolutely love it. Totally worth the wait - it looks like a book. People's eyes light up when I open it and there is an ipad inside. Plus it offers good (not great) protection for the screen. Not sure about drops because I haven't been that brave/stupid yet.
Good luck.
Good luck.
