Looking for an iPad case
Can anyone recommend a case for me. My iPad has finally left the iPad factory in China and should be here next week.
The conditions: I was looking primarily for something that opens like a book.
I have considered the Apple case, though I think it is a little bit on the plastic-y side though I am not completely opposed (however everywhere is sold out).
I have also looked at the Dodocase, www.dodocase.com, and I really like that look though its a little expensive and is backordered for six weeks.
Finally I had ordered the Marware Eco Vue case, http://www.amazon.com/Marware-602956.../dp/B003C1CCJG, though I read reports that magnets that hold the holding mechanism in place mess up the compass in the 3G version (which I am getting).
Any other suggestions from the FT universe?

I have both the Apple and the Dodo cases, and I think they are both spectacular. I bought the Apple case when I bought my 3G, and it is much better than it looks. It was my only line of defense until the Dodo arrived Tuesday.
The Apple case is actually very protective, and convenient. The "laptop mode" doesn't work all that great, but for thin & light, I don't think it can be beat.
The Dodo is awesome. If you love all things Moleskine, look no further and wait, you will be glad you did.
My wife bought some piece of junk off of Amazon for hers, and she loves it, but will be very sad the first time she drops it (no corner protection).
I have looked at cases more than I care to admit, and there just isn't much out there that is worth your time, amazingly enough.

I have this one and like it quite a bit.

(Note: if you are looking for something that converts into a "stand", this is not it.)

I really love the Apple case. It is really "grippy" and can be used to sit the iPad at a number of different angles.. I have tried taking it out but it is much better to use in the case. And it is very thin and light. I dont like the bigger cases although today I ordered a Waterfield Designs Exo case to put the iPad, still in its Apple case, into while traveling, and allow it to be carried on a shoulder strap.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B367 Safari/531.21.10)
Nice, thanks for the link. I've been looking for a case that will hold the iPad with the Apple case. I've been using a silicone case and storing it in a M-Edge Touring Sleeve instead. Think pairing an Absolute strap with the Exo case is overkill?
I'm planning on carrying the iPad in a Skytrain or similar and then when i arrive using the exo case with the Tom bihn strap from the skytrain and the exo case and a couple attached Waterfield designs pouches as a slim briefcase.

I'd like something that can stand up at an angle. The Apple case is great except it seems to have an articulation that would suggest standing up but it doesn't. I'd like it to stand up at an angle in landscape mode, ideally.

It does, of I understand correctly what you are saying.

There is a slot in the back where you can fold back the cover and insert it in the slot to hold it. You can the lay it on the folded back cover at a slight angle in landscape mode (about 30 degrees from horizontal) or turn it on the wide edge that is formed and it will sit on a flat surface almost vertically.

Looks good, feels like it'll take a fall without any damage to the iPad and although it is (extortionately) priced, I think just about worth it.

Ended up going with the Apple case. I stopped by the the Fifth Ave store in NYC and they happened to have them in stock. Perhaps I will reevaluate in a few weeks if I want something a little different.
