Rule Changes
Okay, you want to change the system right?
Here's your chance to back it up but it will take some work. State what rule you want to change but in doing so, you have to follow these guidelines to make it crediable.
1. State what rule you would change.
2. Describe the original intention of the rule that you want to change. That means that you must describe your true understanding as to what the rule was meant to prevent or cover.
3. State what the change would be and again, what it would prevent or cover.
After you state what rules you would change, explain their original purpose and detail your changes, we will analyze your rules and see how it would fly with all segments of society in which most are concerned about their safety in the skies.
Remember, you are accountable to the people of America and to the lawmakers of the land
Remember, be concise, be precise and be accountable.
Regards, SinJin...

Me, too (responding to Brian)!
I'll begin by saying that things continue to get better every day under the TSA. Parking rules have been relaxed; no more forcing passengers to drink liquids; those repugnant gate checks are disappearing slowly but surely; most employees are reasonably courteous, even if it seems forced! I haven't seen a woman groped in a few months. Seriously, I have far more good to say about the TSA than bad.
However, I am unhappy about the request not to lock checked bags. I just won't check bags under those rules. If they want to screen for explosives, that's fine, but do it in front of me. And, for goodness sake, get some better machines. A 30-percent false-positive error rate is simply unacceptable, and we all can probably agree on that!

Great! Then I will assume that you will no longer be complaining about the TSA on this board since you will be sending them directly to the TSA so regular line screeners like me can't see them on internet posting.
I guess that is our first person who couldn't rise to a challenge. It's all about credibility folks and if you can't back up what you complain about on a regular basis, then you have no credibility.
Next...

I don't much care if an overpaid security screener thinks I have any credibility or not.

Wow, let's get some control, everybody. FWAAA, you know that we agree about 99% of the time, but you are greatly overstating what SinJin said. He's not trying to deny you any rights. He's just suggesting that if you prefer to make suggestions directly to the TSA, then perhaps you would prefer to make complaints the same way.
Please let's try to be halfway friendly to our new TSA posters. They are flesh and blood just like we are. Maybe we can learn something from each other.

Eliminate Gate Harassment, NOW.
It was intended to catch items that MAY have been missed by the previous poorly trained screeners. Now that we have higher paid, better-trained screeners, they should not be missing anything.
Put into place a system that will ACCURATLY screen for explosives
If the current system has a false positive rate of 30% it is broken.
Allow for checked luggage to be LOCKED
Allow Pax who wish to lock their luggage to be present when said luggage is screened. That way, they can unlock said luggage for screening and lock said luggage at the conclusion of screening. If a Pax does not wish to be present for screening, then the lock is cut.
Perform ALL baggage screening under dual control
Pretty self-explanatory
Schedule screeners so that there are proper staffing levels based upon demand.
Pretty self-explanatory
I'll think some while I am in flight and add to the thread if I come up with more.

Gate checks have been drastically reduced and personally, I would rather perform the extra screening if it is necessary at the checkpoint rather than at the gate but I'm not in charge so I can't order that.
Locked luggage: At my airport, we do allow/encourage passengers to observe the luggage screening and regularly lock the bags for the passengers when we are through. Never a problem with this method. In the event a passenger is not present for whatever reason, then one way or another, we need to look inside. We prefer the passenger to always be there though... I know there is more to this issue but I am just replying based on what we are doing right now at my airport. I do see and understand your concerns though if you are not present and agree that there has to be a better way.
Scheduling: That's a tough one. As of now, they schedule as best they can based on personnel authorized and traffic flow.
What we as screeners don't want to see is us having to come in to work twice in one day (split shift). Can you imagine our lives if we had to go to work in the morning only to stay for three hours and then return later in the day for another few hours. No one would want to work that kind of shift so as of now, they are trying different things and I can tell you that it really does affect our attitude, our lives and the quality of our family life. If you only knew....
Thanks....

About Locked Luggage:
I am a TSA employee as well as a frequent flyer. I understand the passengers and their concerns about having to leave their bags unlocked. You have to remember that the TSA is still fairly new and we are reckognizing the input from flyers which have led to many restrictions being waived. The same goes for checked baggage. The 100% screening is brand new and we are learning as we go. I agree with the passengers about their fear of theft. In response, TSA is coming out with seals. There are new changes coming out. Just be patient. Post your concerns to the TSA. At the same time, bear with us. We are only doing our jobs. We are not out to see how many passengers we can anger.

This was an uncalled for response. FWAA's post was at least polite. He would prefer to send his suggestions to the TSA directly. Just because he does not want to participate in this does not mean he does not have the right to continue voicing his concerns in this forum or that he lacks credibility.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything but what is this point of asking for suggestions if you are going to reply by saying you are not in charge of something so you can't order it? Are you compiling a list of issues with the intended purpose of presenting them to someone who can do something about them or not?

Unfortunately, not all airports operate in this manner. I think the concern is with those places, not the ones that allow you to be present. I also think that when the screener is done searching your bags, you should be allowed to re-pack them.
