Eliminate Gate Harassment, NOW.

It was intended to catch items that MAY have been missed by the previous poorly trained screeners. Now that we have higher paid, better-trained screeners, they should not be missing anything.

Put into place a system that will ACCURATLY screen for explosives

If the current system has a false positive rate of 30% it is broken.

Allow for checked luggage to be LOCKED

Allow Pax who wish to lock their luggage to be present when said luggage is screened. That way, they can unlock said luggage for screening and lock said luggage at the conclusion of screening. If a Pax does not wish to be present for screening, then the lock is cut.

Perform ALL baggage screening under dual control

Pretty self-explanatory

Schedule screeners so that there are proper staffing levels based upon demand.

Pretty self-explanatory

I'll think some while I am in flight and add to the thread if I come up with more.

Gate checks have been drastically reduced and personally, I would rather perform the extra screening if it is necessary at the checkpoint rather than at the gate but I'm not in charge so I can't order that.

Locked luggage: At my airport, we do allow/encourage passengers to observe the luggage screening and regularly lock the bags for the passengers when we are through. Never a problem with this method. In the event a passenger is not present for whatever reason, then one way or another, we need to look inside. We prefer the passenger to always be there though... I know there is more to this issue but I am just replying based on what we are doing right now at my airport. I do see and understand your concerns though if you are not present and agree that there has to be a better way.

Scheduling: That's a tough one. As of now, they schedule as best they can based on personnel authorized and traffic flow.
What we as screeners don't want to see is us having to come in to work twice in one day (split shift). Can you imagine our lives if we had to go to work in the morning only to stay for three hours and then return later in the day for another few hours. No one would want to work that kind of shift so as of now, they are trying different things and I can tell you that it really does affect our attitude, our lives and the quality of our family life. If you only knew....

Thanks....
