Seriously, 6,500 baht. No clue if foreigners pay more?

By which time things will be improved? There's no amulet big enough for that timetable.

I'd board a cruise ship before I chose to fly to Thailand.

Might you get in? Sure.

Might you be able to leave? Eventually.

What will you do if you can't travel around the country and everything is shuttered?

I think the train of thought has been missed. She said her flight is in three weeks. The response was that by the time her flight comes around in three weeks she won’t be able to travel anywhere. Had she said 2 weeks or 5 weeks the response would be the same. It wasn’t a prediction as to how long before travel is shut down or encouraging her to proceed. On the contrary.

32 new cases announced in Thailand today.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news...virus-12539896
Of the confirmed cases on Sunday, two are employees at a restaurant in Bangkok owned by a Singaporean man who had previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

Nine had visited Bangkok's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, while eight had visited other entertainment venues. Three patients had had close contact with tourists at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. Five cases are imported and two are tourists in Thailand.

Investigations into the source of the infection are still ongoing for three patients.

Separately, 51 other patients' cases are also being investigated, said health officials.

I’m wondering how long until Thailand looks at the Philippines and locks down Bangkok like they have done to Manila.

Don't know that there is any solid information available regarding the number of tourists in country.

Thailand has an estimated 2.2 million legal and illegal migrants residing in the country, of which between 500K and one million are estimated to be of the Western expat variety.

Seems like the rumors about the Royal Thai Army may have some substance...

Army welfare chief has virus, 60 quarantined

The chief of the Army Welfare Department has caught coronavirus disease CCovid-19) and 60 people in close contact with him have been quarantined at their homes, including some of the top brass.

Gen Nathaphon Srisawat, special adviser to the army, said on Monday that Maj Gen Rachit Arunrangsi, director-general of the Army Welfare Department, was infected and being treated at Phramongkutklao Hospital.

"Sixty people risked infection and home quarantine was ordered for them... They included 36 commanding officers deemed at high risk," Gen Nathaphon said.

Made it back....

Did anything happen while I was gone?

Made it back on Sunday, via Korean and the original itin (was very lucky to have flights not affected by cancellations, as KE has suspended a number of routes). The ICN-ATL segment only looked about 40% full.

Seems like I was returning to a changed country. It really hit me in going to the grocery store and seeing empty shelves in sections, like it was the 70s Soviet Union. Traffic was also lighter.

I was apparently a lot luckier than this couple, stuck in Cambodia.

I can report that as of 2 or 3 days ago things were still much less-changed in Thailand than they were in the U.S. The EPL and other European football cancellations had to send a real jolt, and there's lots of fretting in the papers and Thai media about tourism being down. But they hadn't shut the bars and restaurants like in the U.S., and the officially reported cases were still under 100 or so. Not that that can't change. It's summer there now and the daytime temperatures can be roasting with the humidity...maybe they think that means the flu can't spread quickly.

There were a couple of questions about virus exposure or symptoms in the pre-flight "interview" to get the red passport sticker, plus the body temperature zapper in Bangkok and Incheon. But nothing different that I could see on the ATL side.

Just arrived direct from LHR, UK citizens.
At check in puzzled looks from the BA agent about T8 form, we said we had them which we did. Was asked about previous 14 day travel history.
On arrival, everyone funnelled through a mass temp check when turning into the main concourse, some people pulled over, not us.
On entry to Fast Track lane a personal temperature check, we were ok and let through.
No issues with immigration.
No one asked for T8 or to fill in the app.
Suvarnabhumi a lot quieter than usual!

CAAT "rules" in effect from midnight Sat. 21 March

https://www.caat.or.th/wp-content/up...ne-18Mar20.pdf

For infected zones and ongoing local transmission areas which I think number 15.

Many folks scrambling to get out. 60 new cases, total is 272.
