Here is the segment ???? i-CABLE - ????????????????????????????

And I'll do a close up shot and my best transcription of the accepted letter:

"[I have seen Mrs. Zhou XXX YYY]today for examination.

"[This is to certify Mrs Zhou XXX YYY is] healthy without fever or any sign of respiratory tract infection. No evidence of (COVID-19) infections now. Thanks.

Might things change tomorrow? Sure.

Under the direction of government authorities of the State of Qatar, as a preventive measure to limit the spread of Coronavirus, entry to Qatar is temporarily suspended for all those travelling from the following countries: Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand. Only those with onward connections through Hamad International Airport are accepted for travel.

17:32 update: Mr. Zhou went to his wife's doctor, who issued him the same certificate as his wife (again without subjecting him to any swab test or x-ray), and he's now accepted on tonight's 19:25 TG639 flight.

Fudge your own wording.

19:07 HK Time postscript to the Mr. Zhou story

Mr. Zhou's still awaiting departure.
But TG has postponed the mandatory requirement of health certificates to 12 March:

i-Cable presenter: no medical certificates are now required until Thursday.
Mr. Zhou: [need to present a certificate] of no evidence of COVID infection.
i-Cable presenter: so Mr. Zhou paid another $500 to see his wife's family doctor.
i-Cable reporter: But as he returned to [HKG] airport.
Mr. Zhou: Thai Airways changed its mind again...
Mr. Zhou: now they're saying, before 12 March,
Mr. Zhou: can still board plane without medical certificate.
Mr. Zhou: [my wife and I spent] HK$1,000-$2,000 seeing doctors
Mr. Zhou: plus transportation costs
Mr. Zhou: to/from airport
Mr. Zhou: now Thai Airways says not necessary.
Mr. Zhou: This is an absolutely horrible experience.
i-Cable reporter: Thai Airways staff state for the afternoon flight
i-Cable reporter: about 30-40% of passengers
i-Cable reporter: were able to obtain compliant medical certificates and board.
i-Cable reporter: Thai Airways's subsidiary Thai Smile
i-Cable reporter: also demanded medical certificates
i-Cable reporters: but the accepted certificates did not mention COVID
i-Cable reporter: and the passengers holding these certificates were accepted for boarding.

What do we think the chances are of these insane requirements being expanded to other European countries with outbreaks? Switzerland, all the Nordics, Belgium, NL, France, Germany, Spain, UK. Their numbers will all be very high, very soon. If they expand it, they will effectively kill off all European travel which seems like a total disaster. I really hope it doesn't happen -- have a trip in 3.5 weeks' time from the UK and have spent so much money on it, and unless the FCO advises against going, I can't claim it on my insurance if they don't let me in.

Yup - am in the same situation in 2.5 weeks' time and I don't think it will be possible to get this sort of certificate here in the UK! The requirements changing every day are very difficult to manage. It's especially frustrating given the WHO advise says that restricting travel is usually ineffective.

How do you run a COVID test on travellers, if you really have to

Well there's this rapid antibody test from Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel.

Even he cannot guarantee the test is medically valid in isolation
Only 80% accurate
But can be administered in 2-3 minutes
For HK$500

The doctor administering the test is willing to issue medical certificates for travel based on the test
What else can any traveller do?
And, is it better than nothing?

i-Cable presenter: Besides Thailand, Nepal will require medical certificates of no COVID infection from the last 7 days before issuing visas
i-Cable presenter: the only way to correctly fulfil these requirements is to test
i-Cable presenter: Hospital Authority made it clear it will not take the decision to test lightly
i-Cable presenter: [HK doctors in private practice has] imported antibody tests from the mainland
i-Cable presenter: results are available in minutes
i-Cable presenter: HK Department of Health will not comment on its efficacy
i-Cable reporter: two weeks ago, private doctors have
i-Cable reporter: acquired from mainland manufacturers these
i-Cable reporter: [COVID] rapid test kits
i-Cable reporter: this is not a test for COVID directly
i-Cable reporter: but for the antibodies generated by an person infected with COVID
i-Cable reporter: when a person is infected
i-Cable reporter: the immunity system will react
i-Cable reporter: the first reaction is the generation of IGM proteins
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: the body will start generating IGM
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: within a week to ten days
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: next is IgG proteins
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: a drop of blood is extracted (the test subject is the i-Cable reporter)
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: then diluted with two drops of dilution solution
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: if antibodies are present the indicators will be marked
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: by horizontal lines
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: the accuracy is 80%
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: this test is not absolutely accurate
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: because in some cases some antibodies are not sufficient to be detected
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: one test is no absolute assurance of non-infection
Dr. Chu Wai Sing, Daniel: the case needs to be further followed up
i-Cable reporter: I have just completed the antibody test
i-Cable reporter: and results are available in 2-3 minutes
i-Cable reporter: if only "C" is indicated
i-Cable reporter: this means I am negative [per this rapid antibody test]
i-Cable reporter: if "G" or "M" are indicated
i-Cable reporter: it means I am positive
i-Cable reporter: Dr Chu said the test
i-Cable reporter: is cheaper than the PCR test
i-Cable reporter: the cost to administer this test to patients at clinics is HK$500
i-Cable reporter: and can be used to support medical certificates
i-Cable reporter: Dr Chu has on-sold the test kit to more than ten other [private] doctors
i-Cable reporter: and have gifted 2,500 kits to the HK Department of Health
i-Cable reporter: the Department of Health has not responded directly
i-Cable reporter: whether the tests is accurate or not
Dr. Chuang Shuk-Kwan, head of infectious diseases at Hong Kong Government's Centre for Health Protection: we have received many rapid test kits of different varieties
Dr. Chuang Shuk-Kwan: we have commenced testing them again verified positive samples [from DNA tests]
Dr. Chuang Shuk-Kwan: and negative samples and samples of other viruses
Dr. Chuang Shuk-Kwan: to verify the accuracy and sensitivity of the test kits
Dr. Chuang Shuk-Kwan: our tests are incomplete
i-Cable reporter: Hospital Authority will only carry out tests on patients
i-Cable reporter: not travellers at their own request.

Queue "medical certificate" mills in China/HK/Taiwan, just a floor up from the diploma mills, but below the visa applications mills.

I, too, am flying from the UK to Thailand in about three weeks via AMS. The KLM website directs information from IATA Travel Centre for country statues https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/int...1580226297.htm.

Hopefully, the European countries (excluding Italy) can stay off the immigration restriction list.

All those ones I have mentioned are already goners in the eyes of Vietnam and Nepal. Hopefully it is not just a matter of time for the UK, France, Germany, and Spain with Thailand too.
