If they discontinued them in 2012 it would seem they gave people a few years to use them up. The staff probably shouldn't have been refilling them for a period before they were completely shutdown which seem to now be the case.

Looks like rail travel to the north is restricted.
Oil tanker train derailment in Lamphun blocks track
An oil train hauling oil and cement from Saraburi to Chiang Mai derailed early this morning in Lamphun province, spilling more than 300,000 litres of diesel oil on the railroad.
The derailment of the oil train of 13 tankers crippled the rail service from Chiang Mai to Bangkok as all the oil tankers ran out and blocked the tracks.
State Railway of Thailand (SRT) official said it would take several hours before the tracks are cleared of the ruptured tankers that spilled thousands of litres of diesel into the area.
Passengers can now refund train tickets at Bangkok railway station.

DMK travel alert for Fri and Sat (Jan. 7 & 8); military displays for "children's day".
Travel alert: Don Mueang passengers advised to get to airport 3 hours before flight
Passengers flying out of the airport today and tomorrow need to arrive THREE hours before take-off because there'll be heavy air traffic due to the Thai Air Force show taking place to mark Children's Day tomorrow.
That applies to both domestic and international flights, Don Mueang airport boss Petch Chancharoen said, according to Bangkok Post.
The airport will be used for air show rehearsals today and the show tomorrow.
A total of 37 flights will be cancelled, but airlines will work with the airport to adjust timetables and reschedule flights to minimise flight delays.

Snake stings tourist, prompts investigation of animal shows
A KISS from a snake turned into a horror for a Chinese tourist in Phuket over the weekend, prompting official action on venues that attract tourists with animal exhibitions.
A viral video clip on YouTube captured the 29-year-old female tourist bending down to touch the python with her nose. The reptile, apparently spooked, suddenly bit her nose causing her to scream in pain and shock.
The woman received eight stitches at Phuket International Hospital and has already returned to her home country.

Suvarnabhumi airport’s security challenged
Suvarnabhumi airport today made an apology to passengers after a snake managed to slip into the airport's passenger lounge and coiled at the wheel of a luggage trolley.
The airport’s apology came as a small snake was spotted by passengers while a female passenger was pushing a trolley loaded with three luggage on the way from Gate 3 to Gate 4 of the passenger lounge.
They alerted the woman of the snake at her trolley.
A brief panic broke at the lounge, forcing security guards to rush in at once.

Annual problem but may be worse this year.
Northern governors told to brace for smog problem during dry season
Governors and lower-ranking officials in nine northern provinces have been told take precautions against smog problem from the burning of agricultural wastes and weeds during the upcoming dry season.
Government spokesman Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government is concerned with the smog or haze problem which usually takes place every year during March-April especially in nine northern provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Lamphun, Lampang, Mae Hong Son and Tak.
Farmers in these provinces prefer to get rid of weeds or agricultural wastes by burning them by the roadsides or in communities. Forest fires are also rife during the dry season.

BANGKOK, 18 January 2016 (NNT) - The Thai Immigration 24/7 Center under the Immigration Bureau officially operated for the first time on Monday to be an important mechanism for transnational crime suppression in Thailand.

Drought now hits many parts of the country
The severe drought that is currently affecting many parts of the country has forced the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to order conditions in 32 provinces to be closely monitored.
The government has also made available funds and equipment that will allow around 6,000 artesian wells to be dug to provide alternative water supplies for residents in these provinces.
The Department of Groundwater Resources has accordingly been given three months to locate and survey new places to drill for possible subterranean water sources.
Drought-hit areas are provinces in the lower Northern and the upper Central regions, especially in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani and Kamphaeng Phet provinces which are suffering from severe water shortage.
