You must have purchased a cheap economy ticket!
Tickets issued in semi-flexible or better economy fare classes Y/B/M/H/Q/K are allowed to allocated seats in the forward cabin (less row 31 and exit rows), tickets purchased from other discounted fare classes such as T/G/W/V/L... are only allowed to pre-allocate in the rear of the aircraft. Being *G or even TG*G doesn't change this.
During online check in, the whole cabin is usually available to select a seat.

Will make sure to do an early on line check in then to increase odds of an empty seat next to me...^

Hi all
I'm visiting Singapore in April and I'm supposed to hop over to HongKong for a few days to meet up with relatives. Theres tons of cheap LCC's on this route, but since I'm about 1500 miles short of hitting SEN status with Miles and More, I'm also looking into Star Alliance options.
All Singapore Airlines flights make me earn 0%, unless I book some crazy economy fare, which I won't.
Thai seems to offer cheap fares that would get some miles credited to my M&M account. However, I'm not 100% sure if I got it right.
When booking via Thai, I struggle to find the fare class. This is all I can find, and I ASSUME this means the ticket is a K-fare ticket, right?
FCL: KRLE3SGE TRF: 912 RULE: SG81 BK: K
This would make me earn about 1800 miles (SIN-BKK-HKG-BKK-SIN), which isn't great, but still better than nothing.
I also checked some OTA's, Expedia and eBookers for example. For the same price, they state tickets are Q-fares. Which would mean I would get about 3600 miles for the same flights.
My question is: Am I right the ticket is K-class when directly bought from TG? And how reliable are OTA's when it comes to the fare classes they state on their webpage while booking? It would be a shame if the fare class ends up being one that gives me 0 miles on M&M (which tends to happen a lot when booking TG flights)
Thanks in advance

K - economy fare category - lowest semi-flexible
R - return (I think)
LE - I think refers to the fare within overall tiers
3 - valid for 3 months
SG - Singapore market fare
E - don't know
Sadly, the THAI booking engine tends to sometime provide the cheapest fare when you really want a mileage earner like Q . K class earns 75% on THAI, so do check carefully with LH. I have had some success by expanding out the '5 more flight options' that show up at the bottom of the screen, or by using the multi-city tool.
You can book any fare class with THAI, but not always on their website - so booking a Q class fare is quite possible.
I have had no issues with fare class using Expedia, you just need to check carefully...

Hi there,
just got my TG gold status using fast track credit card promo, was wondering about some things related to ROP (sorry, lots and lots of stupid questions)
1) Can a THAI award ticket only be used on THAI flights or can this be included in flights that THAI have code-shares with
2) Is an open-jaw award ticket like this allowed? = HKT-BKK-LHR-BKK-CNX
3) Can you have a stopover in BKK on this award ticket? = HKT-BKK (stopover)-LHR-BKK (connection)-HKT
4) Is there a limit on how long a stopover can be
5) Award ticket like this allowed? = HKT-BKK (stopover)-LHR-BKK
Cheers,
Benny

2) This is an open jaw at origin (HKT-BKK-LHR//LHR-BKK-CNX) and I believe is allowable. Same for an open jaw at destination, e.g. BKK-LHR//FRA-BKK. I have done the latter, and no issues as long as the milage falls in the same zone.
3) I think 1 stopover in each direction is allowed.
4) I don't know, but on a paid ticket my son recently flew AKL-BKK(connect)-KIX/3 day at destination/KIX-BKK(30 days stop)-AKL. The AKL-KIX fare was cheaper than AKL-BKK at the time of purchase.
5) I would think so, this is an open jaw at origin with a stopover outbound. Or you could simply ticket the return to HKT, then check bags only to BKK and 'throw away' the final sector.

Early check-in for TG601 @HKG, then quick trip into city possible?
Next month, I'll be staying overnight at Marriott Sky City and booked on the 13:25 departure to BKK, in First. I'd like to check in before 9 a.m., drop off my checked luggage, and then go into town to pick up a suit that is waiting for me at a custom tailor, whose shop opens @10 a.m., then head back to the airport and go through security, etc.
Would this strategy work? It beats having to drag my suitcase downtown and back and then checking in around noon.

taylors can usually deliver to the Hotel; they can also do that before the shop opens

But the shop is close to the airport express connecting bus route, so I won't be dealing with taxis.
And thanks, travelislife, for the idea of checking in at the City Terminal. I'll look into that.
