FAQ
Q: Which routes have full flat seats in Royal Silk?
A: Only the Airbus A380-800, A350-900, Boeing 777-300ER, 787-8 and 787-9 feature full flat seats in Royal Silk. The A380 is used on the following routes: LHR, CDG, FRA, HKG, KIX and NRT.
The B777-300ER regularly serves these destinations: OSL, CPH, ARN, FRA, BRU, ZRH, VIE, SIN, PVG, PEK, MEL and BNE. It also regularly flies domestic runs to HKT and CNX.
Q: Which routes get the new 747 «suites»?
A: Any route which is scheduled to be operated by a Boeing 747 might see the new «suites», but some routes are more likely to get them (but not guaranteed). These routes are: MUC, HKG, HND and SYD. Flights to HKT are often operated by the them, although these flights are without First class service.
Q: What are the chances of ending up on one of the old Boeing 747s with recliner seats in Royal First and Silk?
A: 0 %. All Boeing 747s have been converted and feature full flat seats in Royal First and angle flat seats in Royal Silk. Every seat in Economy also features a PTV with AVOD and AC power (every two seats).
Q: To which destinations do TG offer Royal First?
A: LHR, CDG, FRA, MUC, HKG, KIX, NRT, HND and SYD. Flights to PEK and PVG have "seasonal" (rather occasional) F service.
Q: Which version of the Boeing 777 features Royal First?
A: None. TG leased a handful of Boeing 777-300ERs from Indian Jet Airways a few years ago, that had eight enclosed first class suites. These aircraft have been returned to Jet Airways and are no longer in the fleet.
Q: Which destinations are served by wifi enabled planes?
A: Airbus A380 on routes to LHR, CDG, FRA, HKG, KIX, NRT. A330 (Only the 33H-version) on routes to PER, TPE, PVG, HKG, KIX, ICN and other intra Asian routes. A350 on routes to MEL.

All of the information above is based on seat maps from TG's own website and fleet information from planespotter(dot)com, as well as on information already available on this forum thanks to its dedicated members. Cabin views are from airliners(dot)net and jetphotos(dot)net.
Please feel free to comment if you have more information and if anything I've written is false. I appreciate all the help I can get.
And remember: There is always the possibility of being TG'ed (being subject to a last minute equipment change). Thus you never know which aircraft and configuration you will get until you actually set foot on the aircraft.

Looks like either:
1. a glitch
2. a new system (or trial) to reduce numbers J seats when using the 747 in 2 class config, by providing an empty adjacent seat
3. a leased 747 with a different layout
4. a refurbished THAI 747 cabin
Not sure which is most likely. I'd hope 2, since that would offset the inadequacies of the old angled-recliner seat the 744 has in J.

If you didn't know, rows 1-3 are the in the First Class section, which is sold on some regional flights as Business (with biz service), as in BKK-DPS-BKK. Usually access to these seats is to high tier THAI frequent flyers. I'd email THAI and plead your honeymoon case to be allocated seats in the F section

If any of those seats are available, take them now !!
There has been a lot written about where to sit in J on THAI's 747, so I suggest searching those threads as well.
Some online reviews to help you decide are available.

You are correct. I was able to view the entire seat map online. I'll take 2 seats together upstairs over potential first class. My fiancee insists on it :-)

In that case, just be aware that the overhead lockers are quite small - a standard rollaboard might not fit and crew will stow downstairs. There are large vertical ‘lockers’ between the cabin wall and the window seat armrest - these are quite large (a couple of 17” laptop etc).

Any views about upper deck seats 17B/17J on the night flight 747-400 BKK-SYD route? I selected one of those seats (previously chose 12B where SeatGuru showed I was sitting behind a bassinet seat). Basically 17B/J were the only other aisle seats available...hopefully a bit quieter if there is a baby on board and a little away from the galley and toilets, or am I missing something?

That said, there is a ‘certain something’ about being upstairs for the first time for those that have no had the experience.
A bit like the surprised look some first-timer folks have when sitting in the nose of the 747 and hear the loud noise made when the nose-landing gear retracts

Agree, and a quicker exit on arrival...

There is indeed something special about the upper deck. I would recommend trying to get the emergency exit row 16A/B, as this pair has unlimited leg-room. It does come at the expense of a window though. These seats are for some reason blocked by TG until airport check-in, so worth asking on the day.

Flying a multi-sector trip on TG, and trying to get an aisle seat for the first leg in J (was assigned a window) on the 747 which departs in about 36 hours from now. I get a message "1 error The seat map is not available for this flight. (8703 [99])" both on a laptop and the TG iOS app. The second leg where I have my preferred seat, the seat map *is* showing.
Any way around this problem? Thanks in advance!

There are always I think seats reserved for crew which may be come available by moving crew to rows 1 to 3. Often/usually last row d/s which I would avoid.

Yes, maerim is quite right. I forgot about the T-48 hours 'freeze' on changes until OLCI opens at T-24 hours.
