So those are the only 2 choices? The silly new version with the extra box and the number of likes per poster etc or having our posts not show with our name but rather with some mumbo jumbo? I think this all started around August or September...it was fine before.

Right, so hopefully, this will fix itself after being turned off and back on. But if not, the issue is that the "Likes" system FlyerTalk is now using is not standard. So it creates compatibility issues (be it with other site software or new OS and browser updates) and difficulties in solving problems.

I came here to ask about the multitude of "new likes received" notification as well, but, alas, it looks like that question has been answered already.
But while I´m here, well, my opinion is that this site has been doing rather well without 'like' buttons for a very long time and I`d rather scrap it altogether again than implement something like the "silly new version with the extra box".

The next best way would be to stop testing features on your customers.
