When you get the significant energy message, check the Activity Monitor. If Disnoted appears select it and Force Quit. After a while, the fan slows down and things return to normal. Quitting Disnoted does not seem to have any adverse impact. It will return in a few days to repeat the cycle.

There's only one thing that helps, and we all know it.
Does this on Edge, does it on chrome but isn't as bad. 50% cpu usage.

Bumping an old thread. Just got my first Mac, a late 2019 MacBook Pro 16", with a Core i9 and 32GB or RAM. When using Safari, FT is so very sluggish and consumes 4-6GB for one page. Granted, it's a meal thread page, but still...

In Chome, memory use is normal of the same page.

What is it with Safari and FT?

Thanks,
-BlooJoo

Since reading this thread, I've noticed (because I knew to look for it) the overheating problem in addition to my laptop's warnings that the FT site was causing the computer to run slowly and use lots of energy. I think I've also gotten warnings about memory usage, but I might be confusing that with weather.com.

We are looking into possible issues with Catalina OS, so we may have some more info for you soon.

I'm getting those high power usage warnings on my MacBook when using flyertalk as well as the spinny beachball delay. Still using MacOS Mojave.

For the past three days it is taking over a minute just to load a single FT page.

I've usually got multiple tabs and browsers of FT open, and on my Macs I often have to have some sites stopped so as to stop the sites that are slowing down my use of whatever site/tab/browser I'm currently using. FT is one of the ones I have had to try to stop at times in order to make things run more smoothly for me in some ways. For what it's worth, I've had this issue less in the past day or two than I had in the weeks prior. And it was applicable (in this time frame too) to the machines running the High Sierra release of MacOS too.

For me, there has been no abatement of the issue over the last few days. In fact, last night, FT was still burning up my Mac.

Whatever is occurring with the FT page is now causing my browser to freeze and require quit and restart. Every five minutes on average.

You should install a Voldemort, this will solve all those issues.

I was also experiencing performance issues similar to those described above browsing the site on my 2019 iMac (Mac OS 10.15.2, Firefox 72.0.1). No such problems on my iPad and iPhone though.

I installed and ran CCleaner. What a difference, pages are now appearing instantly.

Could you give more details, both what it does and who makes it? I asked Firefox to search for CCleaner on the Add-ons page and it returned 304 items.

We haven't found anything, so it is likely a combination of factors that may vary by user. I would recommend using Chrome.
