You can also try clearing your cache. It's possible to have malware in your cache that exacerbates the performance hit of loading ads on a page.

It's been very slow for me as well--often not loading properly, freezing, and asking me if I want to kill the page or wait.
I subsequently stopped infinite scroll and set the number of posts per page at 5 and now it works fine.
I didn't check CPU/mem load, so I don't know if this is related.
Just thought I'd mention my problem/solution.

And one of my computers is a Chromebook.

Flyertalk is riddled with malware. Read the other thread in this forum on disruptive ads and you (the OP) will see that your problem is common.
This has been going on forever and there seems to be no plan in place to deal with it.
FT is unusable for many now, and the only solutions that remedy this are not allowed to be discussed. It's all pretty ridiculous.

I've been having this issue for many many months on multiple browsers. I just got a new laptop last week and first time I logged into FT, memory hog. Ugh.

How do you set page # as you did above? Thanks.

Starting today it takes about 15 minutes to load FT, any forum, any thread in Chrome. At the bottom it says "waiting for secure.adnxs.com" and when I check task manager Chrome's using 50 to 60 percent of my CPU.

The only browser I can find that is not really affected is Microsoft Edge.
It seems to have started late last night as Safari on the iPad would only work very very slowly, if at all. I gave up in the end.

The problem seems to have got worse over the past few days - to the point that pages on FT were simply not loading. Among other issues (high CPU, hung pages), I saw an incredible spike in network traffic when I viewed any FT pages - we're talking higher network than anything else, for multiple minutes without end. Restarting my browser (and computer) did not help. I have finally but reluctantly installed an ad blocker - and all the problems have gone away now.
As canadiancow noted above, I'm willing to display ads, and I'd like to support FT - but you guys need to find an ad provider that doesn't drag the site down to its knees.
