Just saw this and will report back if I'm seeing the CPU issue again.
EDIT: So I've been trying the site without any "workarounds" the last couple of weeks and the issue appears to be resolved. Thanks for taking this feedback seriously and fixing the issue. ^

I don't know if anyone else is still noticing the issue but I am seeing in Safari the notice "This web page has been reloaded because it was consuming significant memory" multiple times. I have a 15" 2017MBP with 16GB RAM and when I have 5 FT tabs open, the computer gets noticeably hot. I did not notice this issue with the old theme. This only seems to have occurred after the style was updated.

This is definitely still an issue - almost an immediate ramp to over 2GB ram used in Chrome and then i tried on IE and swiftly went over 1GB. In both cases, brings the whole system to a standstill.
windows 7
Chrome 65.0.3325.181 (Official Build) (64-bit)
IE Version 1.0.9600.18952
Hope this helps, but it's unusable for me at the moment.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this slowdown, and it happens in all browsers. Even when I write a short post, just one character at a time appears on the screen, as if another ad is loading between each keystroke. I have reverted to writing my replies in a word processor, and then pasting them into FT.

FT is like the Deathstar for my computer. Kills every browser, and consumes resources faster than a stripper takes my money at Sapphires in Vegas. Internet Brands hasn't responded to any comments I've made directly with them, crap company IMO. And I just realized headquarters is in my territory, maybe I will pay a visit and ask what is up in person.

Continues to be an ongoing issue. Doesn't matter what browser or computer. I'm on an ultra high end system and its killing my browser and pegging 2 of my cpu cores, along with network traffic. Can barely even type this as letters show up seconds after I type.

I am, because it solved the problem.
I even have "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" enabled, because I have nothing against ads on sites I use. Heck, I even have google.com on my whitelist because their ads are so tame.
I want to support FT, but not at the cost of all my RAM and CPU.

Still the same insane cpu usage... and its coming from those video ads in the middle of the thread pages that load up with anywhere from 16 to 21 short video advertisements and generate a lot of network traffic and absurd cpu utilization.
Hence the reason I am visiting and participating in FT significantly less than I used to. Don't have the time or patience to try to scroll through threads and reply when it locks up my browser and computer.

Thus, I don't come near FT without adblockers on.

Having precisely the same problem using both Safari and Chrome for Mac OS. As someone who has developed and managed website for 20 years, I'm kind of mystified that IB allows what are essentially malicious ads to ruin the user experience for visitors. Like several posters above, I've basically stopped coming to FT because of the issue. Because I've worked in the industry I'm opposed to ad blockers, but in this case I might have to try installing one.
But surely someone in authority has the ability to rein in some of these improperly coded ads? This isn't about users trying to put one over on you, but rather that FT is literally crashing our computers.
