Ridiculous CPU/RAM usage
This list is sorted by CPU usage.
This is ridiculous. What the heck is running on that page that needs ANY CPU? It should be static content.
I don't want to get an ad blocker. I like FT. I'm happy to support it. I'd pay a nominal annual fee for an ad free version.
But if this is caused by the ads, then do something about the ads.
This is on pretty much every computer I own (multiple MacBook Pros, a Chromebook, a Windows desktop, etc.). No other website I frequent has the CPU issue (though RAM is another matter entirely).

A decade or so ago, when Randy owned the site, we could pay an annual $ fee for an add free FT. But have been told that is now not possible.

This long predates November 15.
I have just never been pissed off enough to take the time to write about it.
54% was after it had significantly dropped enough to not be noticeably laggy. On my brand new MacBook Pro. 3.1GHz i5.
At least the ads that start playing sound automatically have mostly disappeared

No, I think if it can't handle the world's most popular browser, that's an FT issue.
Also, as I said, it's only FT. No other site consistently gets my CPU above 50%.
I have some Google Drive stuff. Nothing that would run on flyertalk.com.

This poster solved a similar high CPU usage by installing a bitcoin mining blocker. Might give it a try....would also be another data point as to whether IB's ad service is allowing bitcoin miners to slip in:

But I think I found a solution to the huge CPU and memory usage in Chrome on Windows. I installed the "No Coin" extension that blocks coin mining in browser and that has drastically reduced CPU and memory usage on FT.
You guys have a real problem with ad quality control since you're allowing coin miners to hijack your site.

I have not experienced any issues as you describe.
In the 2 computers I tried (1 has a faster CPU than yours and 1 has a slower), both did not result a high memory and CPU consumption. However, they are both desktop PCs running latest Firefox (in private mode) on Windows 10.
You have your charger plugged in?

I almost always have my charger plugged in, and definitely did when I made this thread.

While it's not being seen by everyone, at all times, this seems to be more than just an isolated one-user issue. In addition the post I linked upthread from the disruptive ads thread, some others have been posted in the main 15 Nov thread such as:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29178901-post1032.html
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29178954-post1034.html
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29178963-post1035.html
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29179225-post1036.html
For about a week after the 15 Nov changes, I had similar slowness and high CPU usage on one particular laptop, though I didn't investigate in detail at the time. It's been OK since then.

It's been very slow for me as well--often not loading properly, freezing, and asking me if I want to kill the page or wait.
I subsequently stopped infinite scroll and set the number of posts per page at 5 and now it works fine.
I didn't check CPU/mem load, so I don't know if this is related.
Just thought I'd mention my problem/solution.
