FlyerTalk has the ability to add (or remove) members to an Ignore List, so you are relieved of reading their posts.

Ignore only works at the post level; it will not block an Ignored member's post if it is being quoted by a non-ignored member, nor will it block threads started by a member of your Ignore list - you will see the thread, but the first post will not be readable.

Adding a member to the Ignore list will not block PM / Private Messages or e-mails from them.

(We'd advise being conservative with this, because you may deprive yourself of valuable information at times.)

HOW TO EDIT / ADD A MEMBER TO YOUR IGNORE LIST
  • In desktop browser mode:
    • Go to My FlyerTalk (leftmost option in your blue Menu Bar). In the Settings and Options subhead in Your a Control Panel (left hand menu column) select Edit Ignore List to add (or remove) member handles.
    • OR, click on a member's User ID (in blue) in any of the forum threads and a menu will appear; click on "View Public Profile" to go to their profile page. On the profile page, below their username, there will be two dropdown menus: "Send Message" and "User Lists". Click on "User Lists" and then "Add to Ignore List"
  • In either desktop or mobile browser mode:
    • OR, if you are signed in, you can use this "express" link to edit your Ignore List (the first method under "desktop browser mode" simply takes you to this link)
In the past, members have reported blocking specified users with an available GreaseMonkey script, or a FireFox add-on for those using the FireFox browser. Internet Brands / FlyerTalk can't vouch for these working with vBulletin.

Link to GreaseMonkey script.

Consolidated "'Ignore User' Function - Questions & Experiences" thread

Is there any way for the Ignore User feature to also "delete" the references when someone quotes another user?

This came up in OMNI... someone said they had the "Ignore User" feature enabled... but they still see their posts because others quote them.

Not sure if this is possible... just wondering.

Not as far as I know, but I'll check around. I doubt it would work (without some extensive hacking) as when you quote someone, the quote - and the owner of it - are simply rendered into the text of your message. There's no actual link to the original message.

Thanks for checking Dan.

I expect that is would not be possible due to the text issue.... but was hoping somehow quoted text kept the author's tag...but sounds like it does not.

Thanks for the quick response.

Question "Ignore" function overridden?

Two FTers who recently returned after (I think) 30-day suspensions began posting again last weekend. I had previously used the Ignore function on them so that I wouldn't be tempted to respond to their juicy posts, but upon their return, I found that I could see all their posts again.

Does the Ignore function switch itself off after a time limit, or was it somehow overridden by the return of these individuals? Or is there perhaps another reason this happened?

I'm not upset about it at all, but I am interested in perhaps knowing how it happened.

Not sure -- we'll have to do some research on how that works.

Just Passing Thru, have you placed those users on your ignore list again?

Dan --

Yes, I have, and it seems to work fine. I was just curious how they became un-Ignored. I'm guessing that it had something to do with their readmittance to Omni, but that's really not a big issue.

I thought you folks would like to know about it, though.

Question about the Ignore User Feature

Hi,

I thought I'd never use the Ignore User feature, but I think I may have found a use for it. My question is whether or not the Ignore User feature will also ignore PM's from a particular user, or whether it's just for ignoring posts? Every now and again when I post on the Coupon Connection, I get an unwanted PM from a particular user...I'd like to block their PM's & was wondering if this would work. Thanks!

Yes, the ignore user feature should also apply to PMs from that user.

It works on PMs, just as advertised.

Ignore user doesn't block PMs etc.

Is there any way that ignoring a user could be made to block their PMs also? Also that PMs from that user could be prevented from triggering the email alert?

Perhaps there is an option I am missing?

Thanks.
