FlyerTalk has the ability to add (or remove) members to an Ignore List, so you are relieved of reading their posts.

Ignore only works at the post level; it will not block an Ignored member's post if it is being quoted by a non-ignored member, nor will it block threads started by a member of your Ignore list - you will see the thread, but the first post will not be readable.

Adding a member to the Ignore list will not block PM / Private Messages or e-mails from them.

(We'd advise being conservative with this, because you may deprive yourself of valuable information at times.)

HOW TO EDIT / ADD A MEMBER TO YOUR IGNORE LIST
  • In desktop browser mode:
    • Go to My FlyerTalk (leftmost option in your blue Menu Bar). In the Settings and Options subhead in Your a Control Panel (left hand menu column) select Edit Ignore List to add (or remove) member handles.
    • OR, click on a member's User ID (in blue) in any of the forum threads and a menu will appear; click on "View Public Profile" to go to their profile page. On the profile page, below their username, there will be two dropdown menus: "Send Message" and "User Lists". Click on "User Lists" and then "Add to Ignore List"
  • In either desktop or mobile browser mode:
    • OR, if you are signed in, you can use this "express" link to edit your Ignore List (the first method under "desktop browser mode" simply takes you to this link)
In the past, members have reported blocking specified users with an available GreaseMonkey script, or a FireFox add-on for those using the FireFox browser. Internet Brands / FlyerTalk can't vouch for these working with vBulletin.

Link to GreaseMonkey script.

While there should really be no need to repeat the mantra already stated clearly by JDiver four days ago, apparently his advice was not fully heeded. Posting about moderator action is not allowed.

Use the report a bad post triangle, or send a private message if you have issues that need to be reviewed. Open posting of messages to moderators disrupts the community.

Violation of this Flyertalk community rule may subject members to temporarily losing board privileges.

Block posts from specific members

So, I've using these forums for a bit over a year and gotten some great advice here. But, I've run into something that is starting to be irritating. There are a couple of posters that tend to read through a whole bunch of threads and cherry pick posts that they want to dispute and proceed to pretty much tear them apart...and not always with correct info in their criticisms. So, as the thread title says, is it possible to block posts from specific posters so as to not even have to read their posts?

Indeed there is.
1. Go to one of the poster's posts.
2. Click on the poster's name in the left hand column and a menu will appear.
3. Go to the last item on the menu and click "Add poster to Ignore List".

ignore list is not really helpful, he or she can still reply and involved in your discussing , and others can still see that except for you. Is there a " blacklist" button here in this forum? That he or she can no longer reply to you or involved with your topics. I find this in other forums and very helpful. That's my suggestion.

I don't think that will really fly on FT. As a "public" forum, no real way to block users from interacting on a thread if they are able to post.

It's not likely to happen here, IMO.

But if there's post stalking, etc. going on, contact that forum's Moderators - the Senior Moderators if the forum has no appointed Moderators - so they can act as necessary.

See the FlyerTalk Rules (link) for more information about our rules and the disciplinary system. These apply to every member of FlyerTalk, rather than offering some kind of arbitrarily and individually imposed "blacklist" system.

A "true" ignore feature (would ignore quoted content)

Was wondering if it would be possible to tweak the "ignore user" feature. It's a little annoying to add a user to your "ignore" list and then have to read their posts/replies anyway when another user quotes them.

Nope. There is no code for this at all.

There used to be a Firefox extension that was a true ignore user solution, wiping out every vestige. But I don't see it in the current Firefox extension lineup.

Ignore lists

Is there any way that you can code FT (or is there some user option I don't know of) so:

(1) If someone on my Ignore List posts, I don't have a block telling me that I can't see the post cause the poster is on my Ignore List?

I don't want to know those people have posted. Just want nothing there, at all.

(2) If someone quotes someone on my Ignore List, I don't want to see the quote. I want to see......nothing.

Thanks.

There used to be an excellent Firefox extension that did exactly what you ask. But it's been gone for several years. Nothing currently similar or for Chrome that I have found.
JDiver likes this.

Thanks. Maybe the folks running the site could chip in. I could cut a deal -- I won't block ads if I can block these people.

Or maintain a viewable list of "most ignored users".
