Actually, he isn't on your "ignore" list. The note you saw is what he typed in the post.

Try quoting his post & you'll see it's the text you can copy/quote.

edit: Oops.. hope this doesn't make me your little stalker. I was just reading that thread; clicked "new posts" and saw this.

So, you're saying that I'm on his ignore list?

At any rate, no you're not my little stalker. :)

No, I'm saying he posted a (what he probably intended as) supposedly humorous note & you fell for it hook, link, sinker & tech support.

Why post "bump", "I'm now the thread killer" or something relevant when you can post "This post not displayed because the poster is on your ignore list.".

It's all so complicated. I'm such a simple feller. :)

Thread Ignore

Do we have the ability here to ignore a thread?

For example, I'm reading through the 5th page of a 20 page thread on Northwest Upgrade Policies, and decide I never want to read or see this thread again, I click ignore thread, and it never shows up again (for me).

That way I can easily declutter the forums for myself, so that when I check in, its easy to tell whats going on, changed, updated, etc - without being drowned in a bunch of threads I am uninterested in.

If we do not already have such a capability, I would like to suggest that we implement one.

Thanks in advance,
keep up the great work ft!

There has been some discussion on this topic in this thread.

See in particular Randy Petersen's comments in the thread.

I haven't really put it through much testing, but there's a Greasemonkey script that can help accomplish this.

There's also a Firefox add-on that might work.

If these work, then it's handled on your PC without putting a burden on the FT servers. These would only be useful in Firefox, of course.

If you use the Add-on, I don't think that you would need the Greasemonkey script.

I tried this and so far it seems to work. When you first install it, it adds a large bar across the bottom of the screen. But this is easy to remove under "options".

I could not get the FF addon working. Do you use FF for mac or pc?

PC.

But oddly enough, the "ignore thread" feature has stopped working for me. When I try to use it, I get an error message saying "No thread to ignore" which of course is patently false.

So, I'm out of answers for now.

That really would make things easier to read here too. I have a hard time keeping track of what I have read and what I haven't as there are soo many forums/boards/threads on here that i have no interest in.

Ignoring a user's threads?

Resurrecting from the dead an old post on the same subject, rather than starting afresh!

I have added a single user to the ignore user list. I have saved it and restarted the browser and the machine. However threads started by this user still appear, albeit with the post from the user blanked.

Can threads started by a user be ignored entirely? If so, how?

I know I should have more calm, but this user starts about five new thread a day in one forum I frequent! So that I am getting whole pages of his threads, most of which I consider almost troll like and a waste of bandwidth since they are covered on lots of other threads. I think his stats are something like 170 posts of which 70 are new threads :(

I wonder if he is just trying to get his post count up so he can shove off to OMNI? @:-)

Have you tried to contact a moderator of the applicable forum to see if they agree with your assessment of that user's posts? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your statement, I'm just letting you know that would be the proper channel to voice your concern.

antichef Sep 9, 2011 11:12 am

Yes, tried that! no response.

... on the Travel Products forum, do you know that right now 13 threads on the first page are started by the same user, and 9 on the second page. It certainly takes up lots of bandwidth and you have to sift lots of chaff before you get to the grains of wheat ;)

... hmmm... interesting...
have never looked at that Forum.. and you are correct.

My similar question is how I could block
all posts from a particular forum
from being listed in "New Posts".

I guess I won't hold my breath.
