Consolidated "'Ignore User' Function - Questions & Experiences" thread
Is there any way for the Ignore User feature to also "delete" the references when someone quotes another user?
This came up in OMNI... someone said they had the "Ignore User" feature enabled... but they still see their posts because others quote them. Not sure if this is possible... just wondering. William |

Thanks for checking Dan.
I expect that is would not be possible due to the text issue.... but was hoping somehow quoted text kept the author's tag...but sounds like it does not. Thanks for the quick response. William |
"Ignore" function overridden?
Two FTers who recently returned after (I think) 30-day suspensions began posting again last weekend. I had previously used the Ignore function on them so that I wouldn't be tempted to respond to their juicy posts, but upon their return, I found that I could see all their posts again.
Does the Ignore function switch itself off after a time limit, or was it somehow overridden by the return of these individuals? Or is there perhaps another reason this happened? I'm not upset about it at all, but I am interested in perhaps knowing how it happened. |
Not sure -- we'll have to do some research on how that works.

Just Passing Thru, have you placed those users on your ignore list again?
|
Dan --
Yes, I have, and it seems to work fine. I was just curious how they became un-Ignored. I'm guessing that it had something to do with their readmittance to Omni, but that's really not a big issue. I thought you folks would like to know about it, though. :) |
JPT: Maybe the software believes in rehabilitation. ;)

So banning is like purgatory? ;)

I contacted vB about this issue... awaiting feedback from them.

Question about the Ignore User Feature
Hi,
I thought I'd never use the Ignore User feature, but I think I may have found a use for it. My question is whether or not the Ignore User feature will also ignore PM's from a particular user, or whether it's just for ignoring posts? Every now and again when I post on the Coupon Connection, I get an unwanted PM from a particular user...I'd like to block their PM's & was wondering if this would work. Thanks! |
Yes, the ignore user feature should also apply to PMs from that user.
|
It works on PMs, just as advertised. ;)
|
Ignore user doesn't block PMs etc.
Is there any way that ignoring a user could be made to block their PMs also? Also that PMs from that user could be prevented from triggering the email alert?
Perhaps there is an option I am missing? Thanks. |
Just placing them in your ignore list should do the trick. It should be blocking posts as well as PMs from them.

Please contact me via PM with the user that you had blocked that contacted you. Thanks,

It seems that the Ignore function gets switched off somewhere during the suspension-and-reactivation process. It's really just a minor annoyance; I was simply curious if you were aware of it on the systems side. |
BOING! 2 yr old thread, but it works for me.
Q: Does the Ignored know that s/he is being ignored? (with PMs, for example) TIA |
They are not told that you are ignoring their message. No.
|
ignore option?
I see there is a "buddy" option. is there a control option to ignore certain users? thanks.
|
In My FlyerTalk, there is a link to both a Buddy and an Ignore list.
(Buddy list doesn't really serve any function since they've removed the Who's Online listing...) |

If you open a member's profile, there are options to add and remove them from your ignore list. You can also do this and manage your list of users on the list via this link, found on the left hand tool bar.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/profile.php?do=editlist IIRC, you cannot ignore the posts of someone who is either an administrator or moderator of FlyerTalk. |
Have you ever used the ignore user feature on Flyertalk?
I am trying to ignore a few users, but it seems to only work at the post level. Threads started by the user still show up here. Is there a way to ignore threads started by users on the list?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question. Please move it if somewhere else would be better. |
Moving to the Technical Forum

I raised this question once before (most likely for the same reason as you: because no one wanted to make changes to the definition of Travel Buzz to eliminate the current mess in the forum) and the answer seems to be that there is no way to do this and no desire to do it either since the thread might contain posts by others.
|
I definitely understand if the ignoring the thread ignores the comments in it by other users. I don't see what else would be possible. It would still be helpful in avoiding these trainwrecks.
|
Yup. But evidently, it ain't gonna happen.
|
Great question by the OP, btw! ^

Ignore list.
I was finally forced to put someone on my ignore list.
This works reasonably well, but it still shows the ignored person ignored on the last post of a thread. It would be much easier to ignore without this knowledge. |
The reason the person's handle still shows up as making the last post in a thread is that, as much as you might wish ;), you didn't obliterate the person by placing them on your ignore list. They still exist for everybody else's viewing pleasure...you just chose not to personally see their commentary.
This is not an item that, IMO, TB has much control over. Perhaps it might be better switched to Technical Issues so that the HOM's/IB staff can weigh-in. Perhaps there's something with this or an upcoming edition if the vBullletin software that drives this board which may address your issue. |
Can somebody clarify, please:
I'm seeking to ignore threads started by Poster A. It seems that 'ignore user' works when Poster A starts the thread (e.g. 1 post) but that thread will appear once a different poster replies. As long as Poster A gets a reply, I will see every single one of these threads which get a response. (I'll have a look for the thread about ignoring threads, but I don't think that feature is switched on yet..) Is the 'ignore thread' feature running yet, so I can customise my viewing experience, free from a few annoying threads? [Asking generally - for info purposes...] |
Just to add, I checked a very popular thread and it shows the 'ignore user' feature is working for posts, not started by people on my list.
If I find an answer to my question elsewhere I'll let you know here. TIA. :) |
is it something i said? I mean, i know i'm new here and all, but come on.
|
I wonder who won't be reading this.
