Just to add, I checked a very popular thread and it shows the 'ignore user' feature is working for posts, not started by people on my list.
If I find an answer to my question elsewhere I'll let you know here. TIA. :) |

People on my ignore list that aren't on my ignore list
I was surprised to note that one I was unable to read one member's posts because they are allegedly on my "ignore" list. I don't have anyone on my ignore list (although there a couple people I consciously ignore - but that's another story :D). I went to MyFlyerTalk to check and indeed there is no one on it.
|
Actually, he isn't on your "ignore" list. The note you saw is what he typed in the post.
Try quoting his post & you'll see it's the text you can copy/quote. edit: Oops.. hope this doesn't make me your little stalker. I was just reading that thread; clicked "new posts" and saw this. |

At any rate, no you're not my little stalker. :) Why post "bump", "I'm now the thread killer" or something relevant when you can post "This post not displayed because the poster is on your ignore list.". |

No, I'm saying he posted a (what he probably intended as) supposedly humorous note & you fell for it hook, link, sinker & tech support.

Thread Ignore
Do we have the ability here to ignore a thread?
For example, I'm reading through the 5th page of a 20 page thread on Northwest Upgrade Policies, and decide I never want to read or see this thread again, I click ignore thread, and it never shows up again (for me). That way I can easily declutter the forums for myself, so that when I check in, its easy to tell whats going on, changed, updated, etc - without being drowned in a bunch of threads I am uninterested in. If we do not already have such a capability, I would like to suggest that we implement one. Thanks in advance, keep up the great work ft! |

There has been some discussion on this topic in this thread. See in particular Randy Petersen's comments in the thread. |
I haven't really put it through much testing, but there's a Greasemonkey script that can help accomplish this.
There's also a Firefox add-on that might work. If these work, then it's handled on your PC without putting a burden on the FT servers. These would only be useful in Firefox, of course. If you use the Add-on, I don't think that you would need the Greasemonkey script. |
I tried this and so far it seems to work. When you first install it, it adds a large bar across the bottom of the screen. But this is easy to remove under "options". |

I could not get the FF addon working. Do you use FF for mac or pc?
But oddly enough, the "ignore thread" feature has stopped working for me. When I try to use it, I get an error message saying "No thread to ignore" which of course is patently false. So, I'm out of answers for now. |
That really would make things easier to read here too. I have a hard time keeping track of what I have read and what I haven't as there are soo many forums/boards/threads on here that i have no interest in.

Ignoring a user's threads?
Resurrecting from the dead an old post on the same subject, rather than starting afresh!
I have added a single user to the ignore user list. I have saved it and restarted the browser and the machine. However threads started by this user still appear, albeit with the post from the user blanked. Can threads started by a user be ignored entirely? If so, how? I know I should have more calm, but this user starts about five new thread a day in one forum I frequent! So that I am getting whole pages of his threads, most of which I consider almost troll like and a waste of bandwidth since they are covered on lots of other threads. I think his stats are something like 170 posts of which 70 are new threads :( I wonder if he is just trying to get his post count up so he can shove off to OMNI? @:-) |

Yes, tried that! no response.
... on the Travel Products forum, do you know that right now 13 threads on the first page are started by the same user, and 9 on the second page. It certainly takes up lots of bandwidth and you have to sift lots of chaff before you get to the grains of wheat ;) |

have never looked at that Forum.. and you are correct. My similar question is how I could block all posts from a particular forum from being listed in "New Posts". I guess I won't hold my breath. |
From what I understand, the Ignore User function will block POSTS (not PMs) from the users on your list.
But, if the user is also the OP of a new thread, I'm guessing the software wants you to still be able to see the thread (because it might be full of posts from non-ignored posters you like), so original threads by ignored users are still visible to you. Likely this is the desired behavior and you may just have to "manually ignore" (haha) them. Paul |
I am having to do a "manual ignore" on this, just wanted to know if it was technically possible. When downloading on a phone it means using lots of data downloading as there is so much signal-to-noise from this user clogging the pages!
I suppose I should ask for this as a new feature suggestion ;) |

I wish something like this would take place soon. The sooner, the better! ;) ETA: Some changes are happening. :) |
Ditto, I'd love a block feature for phpBB also to stop an ignored User's seeing any of my posts as well as blocking any PM activity between the 2.

Block user comment? [Using Ignore List master thread]
Hello all
I was curious, is there a button on this forum where I can click it to block all public comments for a certain user? I have experienced many immature users with personal attacks which is unrelated to some threads, so I was curious if such button existed to avoid wasting my time reading irrelevant/immature comments from some users in public threads. Thanks in advance :) |
Click on a member's user ID (in blue) in any of the forum threads and a menu will appear. The last option is "add [username] to Ignore list"
|
Thanks a lot :)
|
I would add that personal attacks are prohibited by FlyerTalk Rules. Also, posts that are too far off-topic, excessively argumentative and otherwise disruptive to a thread may constitute rules violations.
All of those types of posts should be reported to moderators for appropriate action. I'd reserve the ignore button for those few members whom you might personally find annoying, but who aren't technically violating any rules or disrupting the overall flow of the discussion. |

Unfortunately the mods at the emirates forums are not taking "appropriate action." The worst action I have seen from mods for personal attacks against me was just deleting these personal comments.......
But discussing moderator actions is also against the Rules. My recommendation would be to communicate directly with the Emirates forum moderators (Zol and eightblack)if you have questions of how they might be handling Rules violations; failing that, you can communicate with the Community Director, as provided by the Rules: 18. Discussion of Moderator Actions - link to this Rule Moderators value your private views and feedback related to their actions and duties. You may submit appropriate feedback to moderators by private message or e-mail. Do not post comments about moderator decisions or actions, or about the work of moderators, unless a moderator has invited members to post feedback in a particular thread. Any concerns about the actions of a moderator should be directed exclusively and privately to the Community Director. |

You actually can't know that, because communications such as warnings and the like between moderators and members are also protected by privacy rules.

With all due respect and not commenting on the OP's issues, I had an issue with moderator action (or inaction) and did send all of the pertinent information to the Community Director - twice. I never even received a response to either message, not even an acknowledgement. So I understand the frustration when trying to stay within the rules and not discuss moderator actions but when there is no other recourse and the only avenue available is ignored, what is one to do?

I'd recommend PM e-mailing the Community Director one more time; I've not seen that kind of communication ignored myself, though I've seen acknowledgements, referrals to the Moderator Appeals and Peer Panel and denials of requests.

You should have seen them yourself but the mods decided to delete these comments..... Not really sure if they even sent them a warning or not!

While there should really be no need to repeat the mantra already stated clearly by JDiver four days ago, apparently his advice was not fully heeded. Posting about moderator action is not allowed.
Use the report a bad post triangle, or send a private message if you have issues that need to be reviewed. Open posting of messages to moderators disrupts the community. Violation of this Flyertalk community rule may subject members to temporarily losing board privileges. |
Block posts from specific members
So, I've using these forums for a bit over a year and gotten some great advice here. But, I've run into something that is starting to be irritating. There are a couple of posters that tend to read through a whole bunch of threads and cherry pick posts that they want to dispute and proceed to pretty much tear them apart...and not always with correct info in their criticisms. So, as the thread title says, is it possible to block posts from specific posters so as to not even have to read their posts?

1. Go to one of the poster's posts. 2. Click on the poster's name in the left hand column and a menu will appear. 3. Go to the last item on the menu and click "Add poster to Ignore List". |

ignore list is not really helpful, he or she can still reply and involved in your discussing , and others can still see that except for you. Is there a " blacklist" button here in this forum? That he or she can no longer reply to you or involved with your topics. I find this in other forums and very helpful. That's my suggestion.
