I don't think that will really fly on FT. As a "public" forum, no real way to block users from interacting on a thread if they are able to post.

It's not likely to happen here, IMO.

But if there's post stalking, etc. going on, contact that forum's Moderators - the Senior Moderators if the forum has no appointed Moderators - so they can act as necessary.

See the FlyerTalk Rules (link) for more information about our rules and the disciplinary system. These apply to every member of FlyerTalk, rather than offering some kind of arbitrarily and individually imposed "blacklist" system.

Thanks for the reply. [Removed comments about individual moderator(s)]

A "true" ignore feature (would ignore quoted content)

Was wondering if it would be possible to tweak the "ignore user" feature. It's a little annoying to add a user to your "ignore" list and then have to read their posts/replies anyway when another user quotes them.

Nope. There is no code for this at all.

cblaisd Apr 3, 2018 2:02 pm

There used to be a Firefox extension that was a true ignore user solution, wiping out every vestige. But I don't see it in the current Firefox extension lineup.

Ignore lists

Is there any way that you can code FT (or is there some user option I don't know of) so:

(1) If someone on my Ignore List posts, I don't have a block telling me that I can't see the post cause the poster is on my Ignore List?

I don't want to know those people have posted. Just want nothing there, at all.

(2) If someone quotes someone on my Ignore List, I don't want to see the quote. I want to see......nothing.

Thanks.

cblaisd Mar 28, 2020 5:38 pm

There used to be an excellent Firefox extension that did exactly what you ask. But it's been gone for several years. Nothing currently similar or for Chrome that I have found.

Thanks. Maybe the folks running the site could chip in. I could cut a deal -- I won't block ads if I can block these people.

Tanic Mar 29, 2020 3:22 pm

Or maintain a viewable list of "most ignored users".

IBJoel Mar 30, 2020 8:22 am

I will ask tech, although I suspect that the reason you get a small notification is so if there's a conversation in a thread in which a user you've blocked has the lynchpin post, there's an indication of what's going on.

IBobi Mar 30, 2020 12:49 pm

That's going to be a no. We can't/won't re-code the core software to alter this function.

Ignore list

Can you make FT work like other forums such that when someone is on my ignore list I never see any of their posts - by that I mean when another person quotes them. This post is an example where the quoted post is from a poster who I never want to read another word from.

Other forums I frequent seem to manage this, can FT please. Thanks.

ignore Function

I may be having a senior moment but I can't find a way to ignore a poster that I believe is harassing me. Any pointers on how to ignore a member.

On laptop:

"MyFlyerTalk" then "Edit Ignore List"

or

It used to be somewhere here. Why is it gone?

Another FT improvement.

Could you give me a specific date?

Maybe last year? Idk.

My memory, faulty as it may be, recalls that the Ignore/Mute feature was in a drop down when selecting the name of a poster in the left column. That's where I first started looking.

SkiAdcock Nov 22, 2024 8:58 pm

Not that long ago I was able to add someone to my ignore list (mine was much sooner than last year). Today, 11/22/24, that option no longer exists.

Post #2 details where to find the ignore function.

Indeed, but I think what people are referring to is that previously if you clicked on a poster's name next to their post (e.g. in the screenshot below I have just clicked on your name), the menu that pops up also used to include a way to add that user directly to one's ignore list.

Also mentioned in this previous thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...es-thread.html

I mentioned exactly that in post #8 of this thread. At some point that valuable feature was moved.

Ah, indeed -- sorry, I should have scrolled back further in the thread :o (I landed on it from a search result while looking for the missing functionality)

SkiAdcock Jan 20, 2025 3:30 pm

Only FT would make an easy function more difficult

Not true at all. ALL organisations invovled with tech make things progressively harder, if not impossible, as the software "matures". It's no different from the previous decades where all software evolved until it included an email function and then all software evolved until it included a social media function. Removing useful and ease of use features/funtionality is just the latest fad for this generation of software "engineers".

jrl767 Jan 30, 2025 6:59 pm

imo it’s more that the new hires are tasked with doing simpler changes like deleting functionality of a link … but don’t actually understand that a lot of current users *actually like* that functionality (and thus don’t know to question (or dig into) the “why” of the go-do)

gaobest Feb 7, 2025 1:16 pm

Assuming that this issue is solved…

I use the “my flyertalk” (after clicking my username) and on the left side is the ignore list.

DenverBrian Feb 19, 2025 8:52 am

This is approximately what it USED to look like. You could directly ignore a poster by clicking on their name and selecting the bottom option. Much easier than going to "Edit Ignore List" where you have to manually add a user (and you need to spell their username correctly). The function seemed to disappear some time in 2024.

Although not as simple as the deprecated link in the contextual menu, the easiest way I’ve found to add an egregious poster to my own private IL is to chick on said poster’s name, select View Public Profile, then utilize the User Lists drop-down. The last option on that menu is to Add to Ignore List.
