inserting links to other threads

Could anyone please help me with inserting links to other threads? If I want to tell someone in General that there is more info at American how do I insert that link to the thread? I understand the cut and paste for internet sites but it didn't work for the threads.

Thanks,

DR

I don't know how others do it, and there's pbly an easier way, but I click the "send this thread in email" or some such at the top of the frame.. then I copy the URL that shows us in the email message and paste it in the message..

In Explorer or Netscape the thread "number" is atop the page you are viewing now. Simply highlight it, go to "edit" and select "copy" and then under edit again hit "paste" in your reply.

My computer knowledge level is 2 out a possible 1000, so if I can do it, it has got to be DEAD easy!

Here is one that features an interesting exchange with the poster above, drtravels.

OZ,
Are you referring to URL in the address bar? I'm not sure why, but when I click on a thread, I only get the flyertalk.com/boards.htm shown there.. but when I click on "send this page by email..", I get the entire URL - so maybe I need to ask my IT guy why that is..

But if you DO see the entire thread URL in the address bar, all you have to do is put your mouse over the address bar, right click on your mouse, and hit copy.. then paste wherever.

Curious - thanks for the insight that some of you have the entire URL displayed!

When I started, I know I had same query.

I used to come in by typing up simply:

www.FlyerTalk.com

then you get a kind of never changing URL up top even when you change pages.

However when I click on a LINK to another page, such as :

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum94/HTML/002315.html

The heading piece all disappeared when that page opened up, and the actual URL for that page came up allowing cut and paste. Maybe try that?

Well Glen, I'm hopeless. I went to your link and tried to cut and paste and this is what I wound up with.

Too bad I won't be in Seattle Nov 9th. You could show me in person.

Have fun in our great city.

Dick

Click on this again.

WHAT comes up in your address window at top of screen. Surely not what you posted above?

There are 2 ways you can do this. First one is to change your bookmark or favorite places for how you first enter FlyerTalk from a www.flyertalk.com address to:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ultimate.cgi

That way you bypass the FlyerTalk "frame" and enter the Bulletin Board directly. Then when you visit each forum page, the correct and true URL for that page will appear up in the URL or address bar window. You can Copy and Paste from that.

Second (for Windows users only) if you do continue to enter FlyerTalk through the www.flyertalk.com URL, when you get to a page you want the URL on, simply place you cursor on the body of that page and right click your mouse. Then slide down to "Properties". This will bring up the properties window and that will indicate the URL of the page you are viewing. You can then Copy and Paste from that.

drtravels .. you have never indicated whether you use Netscape or Explorer.

That will make a difference. What Premex suggests works for me on Explorer (just go straight to "File" and "Properties" will do it seems) but on my Navigator the quickest way is to go up to "View" then "Page Info" and then the URL should show. Why the URL shows on top on each page for me have no idea, but my computer knowledge is 3 out of a possible 100.

You want to cut the one showing "Forum72" and not the others!

premex: Of course! I'm guilty of never remembering the options of the right side of the mouse... always making work for myself. FYI - the URL I have bookmarked that takes me directly to the boards is http://www.flyertalk.com/boardsfr.htm . For whatever reason, even when I click on a thread, I never see the entire URL in the address bar: only the one above...

Thanks again for the great tip!

Change your bookmark to:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ultimate.cgi

...and you won't even have to hassle with the right click deal. The URL you want will always be right in your URL/Address Bar.

thanks for the suggestions - just back from beautiful Brasil. I'll try the tips when my brain recovers from the drinks, sun and eyestrain.

Oz, your info is on the way.

drtravels. Thank you! Had a great evening in Seattle with a bunch of FT'ers, on the way over to DUS!

Missed the Boeing factory trip by 5 mins, despite a $35 mad cab ride from Airport so like General Macarthur "I shall return."
