Now a new problem with page format on laptop

Having complained about the new format problems with viewing the new banner on the iPad, tonight I have just started looking at FT on my MacBook Pro and now have a different problem. I suspect it is a "fix" for the original that now impacts on the other format!

The FT page just used to all load on the screen, but today the screen now goes outside the normal page load, and I have to manually scroll to get the right hand edge in view.

I assume that you have changed something on the other setting, which is now impacting on laptops too. I think you will get even more grumbles when they locate how to post on this forum

Does this on all pages? Or do you have a page you can link here where it's happening?

It happens on all pages. I have tried it on Safari and Firefox.

Posted this from the iPad, where I can confirm that the previous format problem is now cured!!

Sounds like a screen resolution issue...

Any resolution lower than 1280 width makes it necessary to scroll sideways.

It's happening to me as well on a MacBook, running either Safari or Firefox. The change which occurred today is that the titles of each thread don't word-wrap any longer.

ETA: Let me correct that a bit. I looked at a few forums, and there is some word-wrapping going on, but only for very long thread titles. It's as if the box which constrains thread titles was suddenly made much wider.

Today I'm having the same problem in Chrome, which is my primary browser. Firefox is OK. And no it's not the screen resolution which I haven't changed and it looked fine for 4+ years until today anyway. Even adjusting resolution doesn't help and the problem occurs on my wife's laptop in Chrome as well. All started today.

Could someone screenshot what they're seeing?

This is what the front page of the United forum looks like now. Most of the thread names and announcement titles should be word-wrapping, but the room allowed for them has been extended. It affects the text inside the threads as well--formatting the pages looks like it does when someone inserts an oversized image into their post.

Same problem on the desktop. It seems to have been created when the tablet problem was "fixed." Instead of decreasing the width of the banner it appears they increased the width of the page.

Here's something interesting. When viewing a single post, the view is like it used to be:

Versus what we're seeing now (same screen size/resolution):

Same here. My Thinkpad is using Firefox with ....... Plus.

It all suddenly started about 12 hours ago. In the middle of my previous FT visit without any change on my end, FT pages just became too "fat" to fit in one screen. I just log back onto FT, the problem remains.

What did IB fix that creates this new problem half a day ago?

What makes iPad users happy unfortunately breaks what works for us non-iPadders. (Yes, I am still sour for not getting a free iPad from you know who. )

It is really a PAIN to be on FT right now! It's been 18 hours. How soon can we get back to normal?

Two question for IB:

1) Do FT have more iPad users than laptops/desktops ones?
2) Does any fix get properly tested before implemented on FT? How does the IT Dept come up with a fix that bundles with a new set of problems for another new group of users?

I use a laptop as my 'main' computer & I've not noticed any changes. I'm PC-based using IE if that makes any difference.

Now off to check my Kindle Fire HD to see if FT is displaying properly on that again.

Cheers.
