Omni post limit
Has the limitation on OMNI posting changed? I thought it was 180 posts, but http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19452693-post1.html

Looks like he had a 7 year gap (no posts from 2005 until Sept 2012) and would have qualified under the old rules.

BTW, I made a misstatement earlier in either this thread or another in this forum. I encouraged those long-term members with less than 180 posts to petition the Community Director for OMNI privileges.
I now know that exceptions are not granted and the 180/180 rule is locked in stone. My bad and I apologize. And it's something I should have been aware of as she's simply following the wishes and votes of TB on this issue.
Those long-term members with fewer than 180 posts are going to continue to have to build their post count to 180 by contributing to the Miles and Points forums before allowed OMNI privileges.

Did those rules apply to posters who had OMNI access back in 2005, though? You'll recall back in 2004 the entry qualification for OMNI was 100 posts, and the poster in question had that amount of posts in 2005. I've seen other posters, in the past, that didn't meet the current entry requirements for Coupon Connection, and the explanation has been that they were grandfathered in under the old rules.
Will be standing by to see if this poster gets kicked out of OMNI or not.

As far as I know, no such exemption for OMNI entry. You do realize I was quoting a reply from our OMNI MOD, right?

I've seen this before. In some cases, they are company reps who want to post outside of their official capacity and handle. I know of one such person.

Once the software has determined that someone is eligible for a restricted forum, there is no recheck when the entry requirements are changed. For example, the current entry restriction is 180/180. Should that (God forbid) be changed to 360/360, the software will not automatically check those who are already enabled to see if they qualify against the new higher restrictions. I would have to make a special request of Internet Brands tech team to do so. It is a drain on computer resources. I made a conscious choice not to make this request when the entry requirements changed for Coupon Connection. I had forgotten about the prior entry restriction for Omni, so this was not a conscious choice - but I am sure that if I had thought about it, I would have consciously grandfathered people.

Here's a 2004 announcement that ozstamps captured in one of his posts.

Becoming OMNI Enabled
What we value most on FlyerTalk is dialog about the topic of miles and points. It's in our history and in our souls. OMNI grows out of the familiarity of Community, which is actually a good thing. However lately we've found that new members are becoming members of FlyerTalk to take part in the dialog that is OMNI. I have strong feelings this is not the best direction for FlyerTalk.
As a result, we've instituted a feature of FlyerTalk that will limit access to both OMNI to those members we feel have contributed enough to FlyerTalk to enjoy the benefits of posting on this forum. The idea that by posting in the miles, points and travel forums, members will better familiarize themselves with the other members they may exchange opinions with later and have developed more sensitivity to them and as well, a sense of respect for the Community we call FlyerTalk. I feel that becoming part of the Community of FlyerTalk will go a long way toward enjoying the other benefits of this wonderful group of people.
The entrance level to enjoy posting in OMNI will be contributing 100 posts to the topic of miles, points or travel. It's what we started with and what we still require today. I am sorry if there will be any inconvenience, but certainly we have not taken away your ability to read and enjoy the content in this forum, only the ability to post.
Cheers,
Randy
