Currently, there is no paid Premium subscription to eliminate advertising from the FlyerTalk viewing experience, and at this moment (18 Nov 2014) there is no plan for a Premium subscription in the works.

Regarding ads, please *do not promote ad-blocking software on FlyerTalk*. I don't know that anyone particularly enjoys seeing advertising. But the fact remains that FlyerTalk is *free* to use, and that's because of advertising revenue. In addition, the use of adblockers causes us (me) no end of headaches, because it interferes with site functionality in such a way as to make it very difficult to determine if there is an issue with flyertalk.com, or with a single user's computer. The complaint comes in and must be researched either way.

Thank you all for your help,

Paul
HISTORY: A few years ago, Randy Petersen, owned a number of travel-related products and websites under Frequent Flyer Services (est. 1986), including FlyerTalk, WebFlyer, FlyerGuide (wiki) and Inside Flyer magazine (more recently, MilePoint and Boarding Area).

When the FlyerTalk Premium subscription was instituted, one could subscribe to Inside Flyer magazine and through it, to an advert-free version of FlyerTalk that also included an expanded message box for Private Messaging.

Randy Petersen sold FlyerTalk to Internet Brands March 2007 and Randy Petersen and FlyerTalk went their separate ways in November of 2010.

When Premium subscriptions came up for renewal, for a period of time the Premium subscription could appear to be renewed by paying once again via the Inside Flyer webform. Unfortunately, due to the separation of ownership, this did not extend the Premium FlyerTalk subscription, and previous Premium members were presented with advertising and saw a sudden diminution of their PM message box.

CURRENT STATUS: Admin has been working on a Premium, ad-free membership solution for over two years, but at this moment there is no Premium membership, nor is there any intent for such a product in the near future.

On a case-by-case basis, Administration has extended an ads-free experience with expanded PM message box to those (relatively few) members with a recent Premium subscription due date gratis. If you feel you have cause to request that interim free service because your Premium service expired recently, please post your request here. These should not be expected to be renewed in perpetuity.

Other posts relating to the future of Premium subscriptions and related issues may be posted here as well.

When (and if) the Tech and Admin departments have a Premium subscription solution at hand, it will undoubtedly be advertised or broadcast to all FT members. For now, there's no comprehensive solution.

Thank you for your understanding.

Now I'm feelin' kind of inadequate because I've never had hundreds of PM's.

Though word on the new/improved premium would be nice.

Working on an equitable solution to this; I'll get back to you when I have a process in place, hopefully by next week. Pinging tech now.

Thanks for your patience and suggestions

Exclamation Renewed InsideFlyer Subscription but still Seeing Ads on FT

Has something happened? Yesterday I had no ads. Today I see my InsideFlyer subscription lapsed. So I went to re-up, but when I go to link the accounts, I get this message:

Enjoy a Premium FlyerTalk Experience and Help Support the Community!
Frequent flyers are nothing if not addicted to upgrades. So, we are in the process of building out a new elite status program. We are still working with the bean counters to build out the strongest package we can. But expect an announcement about the details in TalkMail in the coming months. If you are not already subscribed to TalkMail, you may do so here.

Always,

FT Mgmt
Did I do something incorrectly?

Is this new?

Please define "new."

If you had followed this thread, you would have known magazine subscription doesn't get you ad-free FT no more since early 2011 or something. Here are words from the owner of FT:

We are in the process of putting together an even better Premium package that will include Ad-Free browsing. Stay tuned!

I just received my notice, searched, and found this thread.

I do hope a solution is on the horizon.

Since some of us are impatient, and since it's "next week," any news on this?

Already started

Over the next couple of weeks -- maybe sooner, depending on the scope of this project -- we will implement a solution that will make everyone happy.

Thank you for your continued patience; I'll get back to you very soon.

I am truly confused by this. You already had the technology available (as demonstrated by the fact that many of us had the ad-free version for years).

All you had to do was arrange for payment -- and you could simply have said "Send us $15 by PayPal".

Why has this taken so long?

I understand your confusion.

The facility for linking payments to services simply does not exist at present, since FlyerTalk is a free website.

The previous arrangement was through a subscription to InsideFlyer, which as you know is not affiliated with FlyerTalk.

I hope you'll find the temporary solution more elegant and to your liking anyway -- even though it is taking some time.

We all know that FlyerTalk was not affiliated with InsideFlyer.. I believe the question that we're all wanting to know is Why couldn't you have setup a paypal account, and then manually updated our accounts when we paid you?

This is a pain. My PM box has instantly become unusable...unless I delete hundreds of PMs I don't want to delete.

Now that my subscription has expired, I'm rediscovering how annoying those ads are, and a ^ that FT/IB plans to continue to offer an alternative.

I can hardly wait.

Run Squid Proxy locally, takes away the pain with a Block list.

I have used it for years under Windows, just works.
