Count ALL posts in ALL forums. Let's be consistent.

I would be interested in hearing from the Talkboard Members... only one member has posted on the merits of my proposal.

Thoughts?

Currently, they do not. Based off previous discussions, it would seem appropriate.

I appreciate your consideration of this request.

William
I'm ambivalently in favor of your proposal, but it would be nice to see some more support from the community on this matter.

One reason not to count posts on CC is that some very old members post only on CC. I, and others, prefer not to deal with such members. Right now it's easy to spot them because they have very low post counts (less than 100, say). But if their posts on CC counted, it could take more work to distinguish them from members who contribute to the community beyond CC.

Admittedly, this is a relatively minor point - and possibly the principle of consistency should trump it.

This is dealt with easily by the responsible CC user investigating the posting history of potential FTers that one might be trading with.

OF--Not deal with such members how? CC trades?

Yes, I don't trade with members who only post in CC (or in response to CC deals). Again, this is just a minor point against counting CC posts.

Considering members have to have 90 posts outside CC to be admitted to that forum, there is no one who ONLY posts in CC.

How would this be different than someone who ONLY posts in OMNI or SPAM?

Just seems strange to have all posts on Flyertalk count EXCEPT for Coupon Connection.

Considering members often give stuff away asking for nothing in return (I have given away 7 SWUs over the past few years) why should they not receive post credit for giving to the community?

There are however members who have posted only on CC for a long time. Right now on the first page of CC there's a post by a member from 1999 with less than 110 (counting) posts. All of his/her 2007 posts are in CC.

You don't get involved in quasi-commercial activities in OMNI or SPAM. Those who, after getting access to CC, stopped posting on FT except for CC, are using FT only for their personal profit (even if they're not acting as brokers), and contrary to the spirit of CC which is a friendly exchange between members of the community.

May be they should. I just offered a point against counting posts on CC; I admitted it's a minor point and I didn't even argue that posts on CC shouldn't count.

I too support this proposal.

IMHO Coupon Connection is more in line with what FT is about than SPAM or OMNI. Before this thread I did not know that CC posts do not count! I hope the TalkBoard will vote in favor of this proposal.

Seems like only two member of the Talkboard have commented on this proposal.

I would still like to hear from the other TB members.....

Really would like to understand the rationale for not counting CC posts.

While I personally think that counting the posts in CC will allow for more consistency, Randy recently posted this post in the Proposal: Update the regulation of Coupon Connection's thread. To quote him, "CC is not like other forums and that is the danger of any comparison."**

I suspect that in some eyes, that difference is why the posts don't count.

**Note that the topic disscussed in Randy's post I am referring to was to address a different issue/question. But it seemed to me that some of Randy's views mentioned would also be valid for this issue/question as well.

Well, since I can understand the logic of the argument, I raised the question in the private forum to see if anyone did know why posts don't count. There were no reasons provided. OTOH, I also assessed likely support for a motion as being low so I didn't go ahead and make a motion about the proposal.

I go back to what I said in last post count discussion.

What is this obsession with counts?

I look at the answer. Never the count.

I propose that we do away with post counts.

Until I can spend my posts (like miles and points) they don't mean a thing!!

William,

I am not trying to be a smart A and this is not a troll post.

By getting count credit for giving to the Community, what purpose does this serve. Post counts are not spendable as I noted above.

I still believe that this (post counts) is an ego issue. If I went to CC (which I do not) and gave something away, my satisfaction comes from helping someone else.

Mike
