I'm wondering whether anyone would care to comment on:
  • What burning issues are there that a TalkBoard can resolve?
  • What FT matters do you feel you need representation in?
Perhaps this would take on a higher priority if there was a clearly articulated need?

Ozstamps,

Please e mail Randy with your request.

The above 'day' counting is not necessary IMHO.

Dan, apart from agreeing with ScottC - if your novel suggestion had merit there would surely not be a Forum entitled - TalkBoard Issues: 2001/2002/2003???

What threads would you imagine might be posted here? Trip reports? Coupon Trades? Delta airlines new route news?

I asked some specific questions on this thread May 14 or 6 weeks back. About the T-A-L-K-B-O-A-R-D.

Perhaps you might like to add your responses to those questions Dan to save me bumping it? It is open for all to comment upon. I'd be delighted to read your response to them.

You are a TB member after all and I am sure have something of substance to add to the thread rather than: "email Randy".

I feel that there are many issues the Talkboard could assist in, just check the suggestions and Only Randy parts of FT. Most importantly I'd like to see some input on the ideas several members posted about a new layout for the board segmentation (most notably Chexfans post) which has gone unanswered by FT for over a month now. It's obvious some members have issues that don't get any input at all from FT staff so perhaps the designated (and partly elected) talkboard members could be a valuable asset in these matters instead of trivial matters like smilies and new boards which to many outsiders seem the be the only accomplishments so far.

Isn't this reversed politics, this is like the police doing nothing but sit around all day and eat snacks waiting for a call... Perhaps the people WE elected could take a more active position and figure out whats on our minds, or perhaps they could just do what they promised and work in silly things like the townhall updates we were promised a year ago.

Another idea might be to work on a poll together with Randy to see what's on our minds, with almost 2 million posts I imagine there are plenty of ideas here on FT that nobody would listen too otherwise...

This wise thought crossed your mind after you typed "email Randy" I guess?

FewMiles - you may well be right. Sadly.

However, we are told these mystery folks do represent us and our best interests.

(We are also told that about our politicians of course. )

As per my May 14 clear questions ... un-answered by Dan or anyone else that presumably must know, we do not even have the vaguest clue how many - if any - TalkBoard members there still are, or their names.

Some of the seven handles I listed above that I am pretty certain have long ago left TalkBoard - way back in some instances still show on the website as being current Members in some cases. And if others have resigned less publicly how would anyone here know?

I do not especially care who the current make-up is, and how many there are, or whether there is a TalkBoard at all to be honest. But like local politicians - even though I may not agree if they are doing a good job or a poor job - it is nice to actually know WHO my politician is that is supposedly 'representing' me.

If we are told there IS still a TalkBoard, and the website lists folks as Members of it who AFAIK clearly are NOT ... that does seem rather weird to me.

The one and only election was over 2 years back IIRC, and the stated rolling retirements and new members, and new appointees to replace the seven who are no longer there etc, as all outlined in detail on the website referenced above MAY have all duly occured. One hopes so.

It seems clear (to me) from reading the very clear guidelines that the Talkboard members themselves are responsible for appointing the SEVEN+ replacment members - not Randy, who is busy with a ton of other things and one imagines has set a large TB in place precisely to handle these routine admin. matters.

I cannot understand why one or some of their number cannot simply post here with PRECISELY what they have done (or not) in this regard - and whom they have appointed, and when, and for how long.

That the rest of FlyerTalk do not have a clue about ANY of this is my point.

And further to this I tend to side with ScottC's comments below.

Will there be an option to nominate a candidate?

As Arthur Dent pointed out to us in one of the 4 volumes of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Universe trilogy , the best person to lead may not believe they're suitable for the role...

Doesn't look like Randy has set up that function, but you could start a thread here to generate a public outpouring...

Or perhaps Randy will allow write-in votes.

Who did you have in mind?
