I was bound by a 48 hour rule (between being raised by a TB member and a proposal being made) -- the topic was raised almost 2 days ago and as soon as the 48 hours are up, I'll make the proposal.

If it's not retroactive, which I understand is impossible, then I really oppose the motion. The post counts are corrupted already, given that folks got credit for their OMNI posts way-back-when, and then there was a period where they didn't count, and now a motion has been proposed that would change the rules yet again. What's the point? We'd be better off without post counts today. They are incredibly meaningless, particularly given the way they've been addressed/counted over the years.

^ Totally agree. A quantitative measure of "participation" on FT is meaningless and pointless, especially given the corruption of post counts due to the change in policy a few years back. Quality of posts and content measures one's "contribution" to the FT community.

And yet this is effectively what happened when it was decided that OMNI posts shouldn't count towards one's total a few years ago. Post count is so corrupted now that I don't understand anyone's desire to maintain the measure.

Except that post counts don't do this because you can't know how many OMNI posts (from the time when they counted years ago) are included in someone's total. The post count figures are all corrupt, except for those who joined after the unilateral decision to stop counting OMNI posts. Even those won't tell you how many posts were in Lounge threads or were "+1" or similar.

changing it again is not necessarily ridiculous (ignoring million post count issue for the moment)

but it would become ridiculous if this is something that starts changing every few TB elections

With all the talk about OMNI posts not counting and lounge thread posts counting (and etc), I'm wondering how much trouble/work it would be for IB to move all lounge threads from all their respective forums to a lounge forum (with no entry requirement) with all of the various lounge threads from all forums listed as subs and have posts in the lounge forums not count and then allow posts to count in CC. This way, you have all non-travel related threads posts not counting and only travel related posts counting.

I do favor all posts counting but like I said, just trying to muddy the aich2oh ;)

Actually, thanks to lo2e for letting me know that he edited his post between my reading and hitting reply and when I saw it again. I'm *not* going crazy after all! Well, I don't think so, anyway.

I know the current software allows one to hide or ignore certain users of your choosing. Is there something similar to hide or ignore certian threads?

If one of the concerns is that OMNI will now have threads that you don't want to see at the top of the list, then ignoring or hiding them from your view should solve that problem.

Doing this probably wouldn't take up too much of anyone's time and it still allows those who want to play games or inflate their post count to do so without bothering you in the process. And it wouldn't require the need of another forum.
