No, you cannot.

Thanks for clarifying it...

Another thing, I thought matters such as this gets a sticky in the respected forums to alert users who don't look at TB of impending decisions?

worthless according to you maybe, but not to me. (I only needed 1 out of 250 posts in that thread) :D

I know this was your platform, but seriously, who cares about post counts? And why is it so important to you?

To me this is just one of those worthless things you waste your time on when you are part of talk board. It's nonsense, but you've made it into a huge thing in your own mind. (you even said it was a major part of your platform, but in your discussion here it seems to be a big bone of contention because of Randy's actions. I just don't see why any of it really matters.)

Does it help people get or share information about miles/points or travel or write trip reports? No, I didn't think it did.

There is a site wide announcement up.

You won, didn't you?

Still, it's a little toggle switch in vBulletin to turn off post counts in a forum. It would've been exceptionally easy for Randy to set up these contests where the post counts didn't increment. I wonder why  he didn't do that.

This solution means it doesn't matter. They all will count going forward.

Doesn't matter to me.

Points and miles brought me here -- but I've stayed for the community. And OMNI, to me, as a valuable part of the community. YMMV.

Heck yeah! ^

Seriously though, if games become a nuisance in OMNI, I'd have no problem creating a separate forum for them. Because that is a solution tailored to an actual problem.

You didn't know games were problems in OMNI?

Where were you when those games were problems with post counting?

Sigh. I would have expected TBers know better to push motions that address issues and problems, pre-existing or not. :(

Please tell me again what actual problem/s this motion is tailored upon?

1). Is it about which post to count? If so, please present a motion that addresses nothing but counting on FT.

2), Is it about which thread should or shouldn't count? If so, please give a motion that address this thread-level "problem", if any.

3) Is it about what fora to count?, If so, please propose a motion that addresses forum-wide impact or effect; and address the forum-wide merits of such proposal/motion accordingly.

Please don't show me a half-baked motion that addresses issues at all the wrong levels.

Your new TB is working on and talking a about lots of stuff. This is one of them.

If you have suggestions, please post them and/or PM me. I promise you a response within 24 hours*

*unless I am too hung over or on a plane.

no to post counts for OMNI; yes for CC

lo2e Jan 5, 2012 5:16 pm

Why exactly are post counts important on the whole on FT? Do they serve a purpose? And is that purpose not already diluted by the fact that there are some off-topic posts that are raising those post counts?

Sorry TB, but allowing posts to count in the OMNIs and CC only makes post counts even more worthless than they already are, IMO. :td:

The motion covers every post -- which is every post in every thread in every forum. Why is this complicated?

I guess for some it's worthy of any cost as long as counting OMNI posts.

As worthy as making 439 posts in Randy's contest thread, IMO. @:-)

cordelli Jan 5, 2012 5:55 pm

Unless it's a single digit so I say "Welcome to Flyertalk" in a reply, post counts are meaningless.

I don't care if they count, nor do I care if they don't count.

It is irritating that so many people believe that nothing in Omni has anything to do with anything, and Omni is the only place that happens. There's other forums that have little to do with travel, and their posts count, so to be fair, either they all count or none of them should count.

The reason why — as far as I know — is that those contest threads resided in the CommunityBuzz! forum, and the “toggle switch” affecting “post count” can only be implemented forum-wide, not to individual threads.
