Right now it's only an equal part of the community for those with at least 6 months and 180 posts, so for members not meeting those requirements it's not part of their community. Until you treat OMNI exactly like and airline or hotel forum it's not equal. Now that OMNI posts count it should be made part of everyone's community here.

If a moderator is watching, I think this thread should be closed. The vote is over and decided and further discussion here is not really productive. For other topics, new threads can be open.

I'm bowing out of the discussion on motions that are decided. You know, like post counts. This is a new topic, albeit in an old thread.

Meh, imho, the problem is not that this thread is not locked. The problem is that the TB has not concluded voting on this issue, thereby putting it to rest for now.
As soon as the last TB member votes this thread will go dormant naturally as folks adjust to and experience the resultant paradigm for a while.

The other 2 votes aren't done yet (but will be late on Jan 31st), so if people would like to post in those threads, have at it! And for a few weeks after in those as well

Cheers.

Actually THIS vote was concluded & posted on January 5th. Posts WILL count in Omni, so 3 weeks discussion is enough but that's just my personal opinion.

Once it is implemented (after the last TB member votes on the other part of this package of motions), all three of the threads will die down.
This is an unusual situation, where the issue remains open because implementation is being delayed even though the motion is complete. One that is being drug out unnecessarily, imho.

FTers love to hash things out after the fact & in some cases to an ad nauseum extent. My guess is the other threads will live on for a few weeks, just as this one has because of the strong feelings on both sides. That was also the case several months ago when the topic came up for discussion, and the vote was announced. The thread still continued for a long while.
But on a dif note - since it's after noon (like that matters LOL), a mimosa/buck fizz sounds pretty good about now, so I'm off.
Cheers.

It's not personal to Rich. It's a widespread question to anyone who thinks that Omni=Flyertalk. I believe that Omni is secondary to Flyertalk. And I am addressing all the TB members here, as well as everyone else who is interested in this topic. That's why this thread has stayed alive after the vote. We wouldn't still be discussing it here if there wasn't an issue that needed addressing and it's never good to stifle discussion.
I would like to see a motion that Flyertalk prominently displays on the Flyertalk home page, and at the top of Omni, that Omni is secondary to the travel forums on Flyertalk and that Flyertalk exists for travelers. Omni exists only for topics that fall outside of travel and those topics are not what this board is about. I don't know how motions work here, but if someone could present this for a vote I would be grateful.

I appreciate the contributions others -- yourself included -- make to various threads/forums on FT which are not about airline program matters; and I find no reason why anyone's posts on those non-airline matters should be excluded from the counts as long as the posts are not a violation of the FT TOS at the time the posts were made. That's why I really don't mind this motion having passed.

There was a bit more to it than that although you've got the gist of how the decision was made. Both Pizzaman and I were new OMNI Mods when these decisions were made. Randy ran a bunch of stuff by us for our input but never got back to us after we gave it to him.
I was in favor of splitting the forum into OMNI/Lite and OMNI/PR but said that someone should have to be a registered FT member and logged in to view it. That would have kept out the Google bots.
He didn't follow my suggestion and instead opened it to everybody in the universe. And I don't think TB was involved with this in any manner but I don't remember.
It was and always has been the owner of this boards prerogative to do what they want with this board and when they want to. TB is simply an advisory board which is available when/if the owner wants our opinions about something. They're free to use us or not but I don't believe anybody on TB is under the impression that we run FT.

Historically, I have not closed down threads, once a vote has ended. The vast majority die out on their own, but what benefit is it to the community by eliminating the opportunity for future comment/debate?
