I'm open to that. Do you have (or does anyone else have) a title that would encompass both Budget Travel and LCCs? I think they're disparate enough concepts that it will be difficult. Most importantly, however, one should be located under "Airline Programs" and the other should be located under "Travel & Dining". There's simply no way that anyone is going to deviate from the Airline section of FT when they're looking for or looking to post info about LCCs. That's the core issue here, IMHO.

Has nothing to do with appeasing anyone. It's poorly organized, IMO.

If we're talking about flying on LCCs, then that discussion should be in the airline forums. Whether there's a separate forum for LCCs or whether the threads go into an "Other" category, the one place that flying on specific airlines shouldn't be going is in "Travel and Dining."

The forums should really be named for the airlines, IMO, and not the FFPs. Same with hotel forums.

I don't think that's correct as Budget Travel has LCC in its subtitle. With education and judicious misplaced thread redirection, any problem with postings outside of Budget Travel can be overcome.

Subtitle != title.

Something is clearly badly broken given the low number of LCC threads compared to the high number of LCC passengers. (Ryanair is the 7th largest airline in the world by number of passengers carried.) I believe the miscategorization and subtitle-ization (LCC is not included in title) of the the LCC forum under Travel & Dining is the key driver of that brokenness.

At this stage, I would support the creation of a "Low Cost Carrier (Ryanair, Spirit, Air Asia, et. al.)" forum under the "Airline Programs" category. I'd love to see some discussion on what such a forum would be named.

As a separate discussion, I'd support moving ahead with renaming all the airline forums to match the airline name rather than the FFP and changing the "Airline Programs" category to "Airlines".

Or we (the TB) can just change things to make better logical sense.

What subtitle? There's no subtitle at the top of the forum page that lists thread titles, nor is there a subtitle in the forum jump drop down menu at the bottom of FT pages. How often do people actually look at the sticky threads and announcements about what a forum should contain?

IMO it's counterintuitive to expect folks to figure out that budget airlines and LCCs should not be discussed in the first major section of FT that's devoted to airlines and their FF programs. It's even worse that a few such airlines, such as Southwest, do have their own dedicated fora, which appear in the list of all the other airline programs. Nothing says "airlines except for LCCs and budget airlines."

Changing the title of Budget Travel to stress clearly in the title that this forum includes budget airlines and LCCs (ideally as a sub forum) would be better than nothing, but IMO the logical structure of how FT is organized demands that (any) budget and low cost airline be discussed somewhere within the airlines/FFPs main section of FT.

Irrelevant. They have no FFP. The core mission of this IBB is the discussion of miles and points. Regardless of how many passengers they carry or how much money they make, they have very little that bears discussion on this IBB. That's why any such discussion belongs in Budget Travel. There is no "brokenness", only perhaps a need for more attentive housekeeping.

Again it's a matter of housekeeping. LCCs with little to no FFP or discussion do not merit a forum like Southwest or JetBlue - two "budget" airlines with lots of interest and actual viable FFPs.

I'd be fine with a subforum of Budget Travel for say Budget Airlines, and a couple more: Budget Hotels, Budget Cars (not to be confused with Budget, the car rental company), and if there are other viable subfora, so be it.

I agree. Retasking the Airline FF Programs category to be "Airlines and their FF Programs" would create an option to move LCC discussion into a new forum or an existing forum (e.g. Other European FF Programs, renamed "Other European Airlines, including EasyJet and RyanAir").

FWIW my initial reaction is against a generic LCC forum because each of the fee-happy airlines screws its customers in idiosyncratic ways. Most RyanAir tips will not apply to Spirit and vice versa.

This hasn't been the core mission of FT or the focus of those forums for years. The core mission is what the users of the IBB make it, after all.

For example: If you go to the SPG forum (one that I frequent), there are at least 15 threads on page 1 that are property-specific master threads. These have little to do with earning or spending points, but nobody would argue that these belong in Travel/Dining.

If anything, I would prefer to see all airline/hotel/car rental forums be named for the entity itself. From there, I wouldn't be opposed (in the hotel forums), if we had a subforum for property master threads. Wading through the forum to look for program advice among a sea of property master threads can be somewhat tedious.

And I agree, as well. Looks like we're moving closer to some much-needed reorganization. @:-)

The more I read this thread the more I agree with the above (both of the aboves).

Although I was against a stand-alone LCC forum previously I'm leaning more towards it now.

I'm open to either a new forum or possibly keeping them in existing airline forums such as OEFFP, but I'm against saying something like 'including EJ & RY' because there are more LCCs that just a couple.

Agree w/ the first part. I think that travel is the core focus, but to focus only on FF programs is not acknowledging that the forums themselves, whether airlines or hotels, have evolved to include threads beyond just the FF programs over the years.

Re: sub-forum for master threads re: hotel properties. I'd be against that as I prefer to stay in a main forum, but it doesn't matter to an extent as I think master threads & the idea of putting them into a sub-forum falls more under moderation than TB.
