I've seen my fair share of annoying ads on the web, and especially on a site I spend a lot of time on I'll be willing to pay a small fee to get rid of them, even though I have a perfectly effective ad killer running.
I think youre missing the point Scott... those of us that dont pay the $12 are used to seeing the ads in some of the posts. Normally they arent a problem. However, when an ad starts to impede our usage of a site there is clearly something wrong. It was nigh on impossible to read or reply to a post because of that ad!

And, I do not believe I ever said it was the ONLY solution to get rid of ads.

Which sort of points out that the ads are places there to encourage FTers to pay for premium service. And... while you didn't say it was the only solution, you inferred it to be the case by not mentioning those other solutions, like you would have had it actually been an even-handed statement.

That's really not the history of it. The ads are there to (help) pay for the site. Premium FT was introduced at the request of members. Thus the ads aren't there to encourage people to pay.

It may not have started that way, but it sure seems to have morphed into that function, especially given the seemingly-indoctrinated response from wharvey.

I would suggest that you may not want to read more into my comments than I said... I was making a comment as a member... not as a moderator. I found the ads annoying... and suggested a solution... many people do not know about that Premium option. I am not a techie... and do not know of all the ad blocking solutions others may know... but I know one way to stop the ads... and suggested it.

Sorry you believe I was not "even handed" since I did not offer every option possible.
