I was the one that gave you the links for NYE, I thought they'd be helpful even if you didn't ask for them.

squeakr, this is brand new that there's moderation occurring in the Italy forum. There was no Master Florence thread up until a few moments ago! (NewbieRunner you're amazing!)

A master thread for FCO connections

I was hoping the Italy forum could have threads like this one in Los Angeles forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/los-a...ns-thread.html

Regarding FCO, I did a search and found the threads below. If these all could be merged into a master thread, then perhaps a post could be made asking for a volunteer to create the wiki?

I asked specifically if anyone had experience in this particular hotel, which is something quite common that people do in the Hilton honors form. We usually that those posts stand for a day or two before merging, so that people can see them newly minted and add specific information.

I also asked a question about being in town versus a little bit out of town on New Year's eve, and with referred to a thread about how to celebrate New Year's eve which was not my question at all.

I don't believe the purpose of this forum is to discuss specific posts or actions but since it's been raised I have to admit it was probably premature to merge a specific question about a particular hotel. I have now unmerged the question and responses from the master thread.

There are 183 threads with "FCO" in the title (13 with "Fiumicino" in the title). At least some of these are germane and recent enough my Senior colleague NewbieRunner might wish to consider somebfor inclusion in an FCO / Fiumicino master thread.

FCO related threads suggested have been merged into a single thread excluding posts older than 2.5 years and questions without answers.

Please post any further suggestions for merging threads in the following thread in the Italy forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...d-threads.html

Great! Thank you, NewbieRunner!

I've begun a "starter" Wikipost in the FCO thread with some basics others can contribute to and fill in.

It's a delicate line to recognise similar queries suitable for merging and broader queries that are not.

Taking where to stay in any particular city type queries as an example, these often contain a unique set of circumstances, such as “I am looking for a place to stay in Rome that is suitable for my young family of four within walking distance of the Vatican and easily accessible to/from the airport”. I’m sure you’ll agree this query is very different to say, “I’m a single 22 year old male looking for somewhere to stay in Trastevere close to bustling nightclubs” so these two examples are often best served in stand alone threads.

I'd be happy to step up and moderate Italy (Italian citizen, spend 6 months a year there and very knowledgeable on the destinations etc)
Also have years of experience looking after other social networking platforms and websites.

It's always gratifying to see fellow members step forward to help. My suggestion is you PM or e-mail the Community Director with your offer and particulars.

It's great to see active interest in the Italy forum. I've now persuaded the person who personifies helpfulness there to move from his position as ambassador in the forum to Moderator. If you stop by the Italy forum, you'll see that Perche will continue being helpful but now as the moderator for the forum. Please let him know any tweaks or suggestions you have for making a very good forum even better.

It's always great to see engaged members step forward to expand their role. Grazie mille and congratulations to Perche

A suggestion:

When Active Poster also dones the hat of moderator, some protocols need to be in place to keep the two roles separate. If polite disagreement with post of Active Poster should not result in Rule 18 violation.

"Polite disagreement" regarding moderators or moderation of posts/threads should still not be done in the public eye. You should contact the moderator behind-the-scenes via PM or email, and then if you are not satisfied you may contact the Community Director directly via PM or email, which is exactly what it states in rule 18:

Moderators value your private views and feedback related to their actions and duties. You may submit appropriate feedback to moderators by private message or e-mail. Do not post comments about moderator decisions or actions, or about the work of moderators, unless a moderator has invited members to post feedback in a particular thread.

Any concerns about the actions of a moderator should be directed exclusively and privately to the Community Director.

Guess I was not clear in my question/suggestion.

Rule 18 is clear about moderator/moderating actions.

The suggestion/question was about when Moderator is also an active poster posting on the forum topics just like any other posters.

If some poster posts that "Capital of California is San Fransisco" and then if you post correcting him that "It is Sacromanto". This should be totally acceptable. How can this turn into Rule 18 violation? just because the OP happens to be also wearing the hat of Moderator? (this is disagreement on the content of the post, not moderator action)

Ambassadors are key to the success of FT fora and their selfless dedication are always helpful to the community. However, there is danger in maintaining the integrity of FT forum if the person is not able to keep the two roles separate.

Guess. that's why most moderators don't actively participate in the topic discussions in forum they are moderating.
