Moderator needed for the Italy Forum [Moderator now named]
I was just informed of this Suggestion Box by obscure2k, post #124 in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...here-stay.html
Unfortunately I don't have the time to step up to the plate, but if someone else has the time the Italy forum could seriously benefit from some organization. At the least, if there could be master threads for making connections at the main airports. Also, it would be great if there could be a master thread for "Where to stay in Rome", or something to that affect. Right now we have countless threads on the topic and while we have some very generous posters on that forum who will take the time to answer the same question over and over - it sure would be great if the info was organized as it is in other forums. And if this forum can start to bear some resemblance to other FT forums, then a moderator could advise posters when they're straying from the topic. For instance, in the linked thread above, a moderator could encourage posters to stay OT, and if posting about cabs or pizza, the mod could move the posts to their dedicated "Where to eat" or "Transportation" threads. You know, the way other forums here are operated. ;) I do feel awkward making this suggestion, since I'm not willing to do it myself, but I recently noticed the Italy forum had been assigned an Ambassador, whatever that is! And so I put it out to those in charge of things around here - if the Italy forum can have an Ambassador, can't it also please have a dedicated moderator? |

I would potentially mod Italy if we could get one of the other regular posters to volunteer as well - Perche would be the obvious choice. I don't want it to just be me since I do sometimes go a few days.

Its a common misconception that a forum needs a moderator to be 'organised'. Every established member has access to the tools to sort/order content?

If you are engaged and willing to build an informative thread, you can, as a general member, use the AMP function to point out any merge/move/delete post actions to the senior mod(s) that usually take care of the unmoderated forums. Thats how the Finnair forum stays in shape for example.

As a newly minted senior mod I am happy to help tidy up the forum. I can think of a few threads which can already be merged to form a consolidated thread but it would help if the regulars on the forum can suggest which threads should be merged.
For example a consolidated 'where to stay in Rome' thread can incorporate: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...here-stay.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...here-stay.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...-what-see.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...ggestions.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...-s-centre.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...otel-rome.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...ggestions.html |
I have gone ahead and created a master thread "Where to stay in Rome" as suggested.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...er-thread.html I will post in the forum later soliciting suggestions for further improvements. |
A new thread was started there today, apparently done without making an attempt to doing a search first. I replied with a bunch of links. Maybe they all could be used for a master thread on Florence Hotels?

Thank you SO much!
Could these threads be incorporated too? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...otel-rome.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...ghts-rome.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...lace-stay.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...ly-2014-a.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/italy...men-girls.html |

As the poster who made a request about a hotel in Florence
As the poster who made a request about a hotel in Florence, I had specific questions that were not answered by anything in the master thread or any of the sub threads. The newest information is a few months old, which ordinarily would be fine, but concerns hotels that are way out of my price range. I asked specifically if anyone had experience in this particular hotel, which is something quite common that people do in the Hilton honors form. We usually that those posts stand for a day or two before merging, so that people can see them newly minted and add specific information.
I also asked a question about being in town versus a little bit out of town on New Year's eve, and with referred to a thread about how to celebrate New Year's eve which was not my question at all. |
