But at Bora Bora Nui, I think many people who took advantage of the offer fell in love with Bora Bora and one of my friends visited there every year since then.
I think it was a good promotion(though it was a clear mistake) as the newer hotel like Bora Bora Nui.
I was trying to (rightly or wrongly) compare apples to apples by using 2 months of room nights as the denominator. In the Bora Bora case, members who settled to pay a higher amount or cancelled without compensation did a disservice to all SPG members. Didn't we soon thereafter all get hit with the double SPG point requirement to book a room at Bora Bora (because it's all suite property)?

If so, it was a double-whammy for the consumer.

In this case, a $65/night rate is not considered unconsciounable in the US for any hotel.

Well never knew I would end up with a 5 page thread out of all of this but all the power to those who were able to take advantage of this.

Couple questions....

1.) When did the Bora Bora hotel contact guests to try to make the negotiated (65,000) offer?

2.) Does anybody know where you can get a copy of these "consumer-friendly" UK laws?

By April 2003 most of the "negotiating" had been finalized. In January 2003, the issue had hit the newspapers.

No. You have to add that in. However the service charges, if any, are explicitly already included in the rate.

Room Taxes 17.50 Percent Per room per night Not in the rate. Service Charge 12.00 Percent Per room per night Is In The rate.

Are we to be afraid that a Benedict Arnold-sympathizing British butler will try to poison us with bad champagne on the 4th of July in retaliation for our being able to throw off the yoke of the monarchy before they could?

As a source of possible poisoning, they may offer you British Champagne, instead of French one.... oops......

If they call it champagne they have violated the law not only for poisoning but also for IP-infringement, right?
