FAQ: Earning points for multiple rooms [Master Thread]

I also contacted [email protected] and didn't hear anything back on a stay from last April with two rooms. I didn't know I had a missing stay until Sunday when I logged into the SPG app and it said our status is Gold instead of Platinum. I wish this would be fixed soon since I have two hotel rooms booked for tomorrow night and one in Cancun for Saturday through Wednesday!

I have this issue frequently. The key is to make sure before your stays that you have separate stays listed on SPG.com, each with different confirmation numbers. Note those different confirmation numbers, and then check out as you wish--though paying for them separately makes it understandably easier for the hotels to properly allocate the stays. If you have issues after the fact, then providing the separate confirmation numbers helps research more easily correct the situation.
I love being able to get credit for up to 3 rooms for every stay/night. But the mechanisms for SPG to properly credit these are glitchy. Marriott doesn't allow this, but I'm hopeful that Marriott will see the benefit of elite credit for multiple rooms--as opposed to staying elsewhere that will give credit.

I received word late yesterday that the mistake has been fixed. Now just wait for those bonus miles to post

I'm afraid that's not correct. I got different booking numbers both times, all seperate booked rooms. It really depends on how you settle the bill I think, since that is the moment the hotel 'gives' SPG the information needed for points allocation.

Getting the confirmation numbers in advance DOES help research build your reservations to give you credit more easily when things go awry. It has nothing to do with whether the hotel accounting department screws it up, of course. There are 2 different issues here--helping get it resolved and preventing it from happening in the first place. I was addressing the former, there is nothing that prevents the latter.
I literally have 19 visits with 10+ hotel rooms coming up, starting this Sunday...at 8 different properties over the next 4 weeks. I assure you I know of what I speak.

It's not how you settle the bill but how the accounting department processes the bills. Some do it one way, which makes this process painless, and others do it different ways, apparently, which causes these problems. I've paid for all 3 rooms together and had hotels process the stays/nights correctly with SPG....and other hotels screw it up. I've also paid 3 rooms separately and had them processed as only 1 stay before...while other hotels properly accounted that as 3 separate stays.

And I was just pointing out that I did just exactly like you said, and it still goes wrong. So it has totally to do with how the hotel sends the information to SPG as far as my knowledge goes. I totally agree with you that it should work, I just have two experiences over the last 3 months were it just didn't.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Waded through this thread but couldn't find a recent answer. Just wondering, I know the the SPG Program T&Cs allow for stay/night/points credit to a member for up to three rooms as long as the rooms are booked under the member's name and paid for by the member upon check-out.
If the member is a Platinum SPG member, does he/she receive the welcome amenity for up to three rooms during the stay or just the room he/she occupies? Just wondering as I know there were changes to the way multiple room stays are handled. Thank you.

It would be just for the room that you occupy.
From the T&C's of the program:
9.5 Eligibility For Receiving Gold and Platinum Preferred Guest Benefits. A Gold Preferred Guest or Platinum Preferred Guest must pay an Eligible Rate or redeem an SPG Award or SPG Promotion Reward for each night during his/her entire stay at an SPG Participating Hotel to receive Elite Preferred Guest Membership Status benefits during his/her stay. Elite Preferred Guest Membership Status benefits are only available in connection with the one guest room in which the Gold Preferred Guest or Platinum Preferred Guest is staying.
I hope this helps.

Perfect. Thanks. I was just confused when I saw the following information online where the customer stated that "all three rooms earned the Platinum Welcome gift":

I would like to book two rooms with two adults each, for 6 nights. I understand platinum benefits will not apply to both rooms; mostly I am focused on club lounge access.
Can I book one room for two adults in one hotel, book another room for two adults in another hotel which is right across the street. That way all 4 adults will have access to the lounge for 6 days.
The only problem is that we won't be together in the lounge. Could both hotels allow us to go all 4 adults together for 3 days and not use their lounge in the other 3 days?

Should they just let the room key control access, you can pass a second key for your room on to them to use should you not be going with them.
Also, be sure to book both rooms under your account and close the bill so you will get credit for the two rooms. If your friends want some credit card spend, they can pay all but $1 and you can then pay that off with your card.

Sorry that I've this situation and would like to ask what I should be expecting:
I booked 5 rooms under my name at our contracted rate, 4 rooms for my clients for 3 nights, one for myself for 4 nights
Should I expect to have 3 x 2 + 4 (my room) = 10 nights and starpoints calculated based on 2 highest spending 3 nights rooms + my room credited to my account? Currently the hotel credited 9 nights and credited starpoints based on the 3 highest spending 3 nights rooms and ignored my room which has 1 more night and much higher spending (as all the F&B are booked under my room)
Thanks
