Can I pay for all charges for someone else?
In sending my parents-in-law to Dublin, I thought of something I have never tried to do before... Can I book the room, and have the hotel charge my credit card for the entire bill (incidentals meals) without actually being there? And, most importantly, can I give them my SPG number to earn points for said charges?

Yes, You can pay for them. No you cannot earn points for them.
I think you need to send a fax with your cc# and signature and authorization for charging their stay to your card. I have done this before and it has not been a problem. Call the hotel for specifics, or have your concierge do so.

I'm curious on why can't you earn points for the stay? is it because you are not physically there?
Wonder if the following trick will work: call the hotel up and tell them your parents-in-law are going to check-in first and you'll arrive later (although you are not) ,and you want to give them your cc# info., then they would think you will show up later thus you'll earn the points? it's just a thought.....

I'm almost sure you could do it through an AMEX Platinum Credit Card, just calling the Travel Service and giving your name and Starwood number for the reservation.

Sorry. BoSoxFan45 is right on this one as well. You can try, of course, and I certainly will not interfere, but please don't ask me why it didn't work after the stay is over.
According to the the terms and conditions, you must both be the registered guest and personally settle the bill at check-out to earn Starpoints. You can get credit for two other rooms by registering them in your name and paying for them as well, but AGAIN, you must both be there and pay for it in person.

Well, I'll just book the stay and pre-pay it, and see what happens.
Thanks for the responses.

NickyD, if you want to pre-pay, I suggest sending an email to The Westin Dublin directly asking for the correct procedures to follow. They can be reached through [email protected].
Best of luck to you,
